Is there a martial arts hall of fame? I recently encountered a person online who claims to be in the martial arts hall of fame. When I googled this, I could not find any martial arts hall of fames. I found a united states martial arts hall of fame, but it only goes back to 2000. This guy claims to have been honored in the 90s.

When I google his name + martial arts hall of fame, I find lots of references to him being in it, but they are personal things he wrote, not real martial arts hall of fame.

Many institutions have their own Martial Arts Hall of Fame like the Martial Arts Museum (https://martialartsmuseum.com/about/hall-of-fame/) and Black Belt mag (https://blackbeltmag.com/tag/hall-of-fame). There are more.

We've always eschewed the Hall of Fame because being funded by Tiger Claw & MartialArtSmart (https://www.martialartsmart.com/), it bordered on conflict of interest for us.

So this "martial arts hall of fame" isn't a thing.

Well, it could be a thing. It depends on the institution it's under. Personally, I feel the two aforementioned Halls are valid.

Note that there were a few 'Hall of Fame' that were like those old VIP books. You paid to play. It was a PR scam - you'd buy into a Banquet, there would be a ceremony and everyone would be added to the Hall of Fame roll call, kind of like participation trophies but before the interwebz. Every once in a while I hear of one still going. I've been invited to more than a few.

The typical play is you get an email saying you won, and to get your award you must attend the banquet with a full table and there's a fee which covers the banquet plus the award.
