I'm reading the book now. Euwen McGregor (sp?) followed one of my friends (Delta force) around Fort Benning for a few months to research his role. I guess he's an annoying *****.

In light of our specific circumstances, I hope the movie serves to remind our political and military advisors as to the dangers of sending an inadequately numbered force into any area, no matter what the threat is percieved to be.
Size matters, sorry Rolls.

If you pr!ck us, do we not bleed? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that the villany you teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction. MOV

How's the book? I saw an interview with the author on msnbc a few days back, and Tom Brokaw was plugging the bujeezus out of it.

Incredible book. The author not only interviewed the Americans involved, but also some of the Somalis as well. It gives a pretty good insight into what the general mind-set of the average Pakastani or Afghan might be.

The nay sayers keep bringing the number of SEALS and Rangers killed(18) during this operation up in regards to bin Laden and Afghanastan. What they always fail to mention is that our guys wasted a hell of a lot more of them.
Also the indiginous combatants were using their own women and children as sheilds figuring we'd be too civilized(?) too shoot back at them. They figured wrong.

Mark Bowden has a new one named "Killing Pablo", about the hunt for Pablo Escabar. Looked very good.

"Americans don't have the courage to come here," Mullah Mohammed Omar, leader of the Taliban soon to be getting jiggy with his first of 70 virgins.

“Are you guys ready? Let’s roll.” Last words of Todd Beamer heard over his mobile line right before rushing a hijacker.

>>>What they always fail to mention is that our guys wasted a hell of a lot more of them.<<<

What they ALSO always fail to mention is that we are talking about two completely different operations.

The Somalia operation was meant as a lightning quick, in-and-out kidnapping operation (which is why the Rangers didn't bring along their night vision equipment).

Even with "insufficient" equipment, less than a full ammo load, and without the regularly planned support of a longer operation, our boys still kicked ass.

We are going into this Afghanistan deal KNOWING it's going to be more than a snatch-and-run.

It's time to start dialing up Bin Laden's pucker factor.

Lets not forget the close air support they got from the choppers. Quoting crew chief/gunner Ray Dowdy of TN (he was in Super 61, the first downed chopper), "...they turned into Goooooooooo! Gotta love the Mini-gun."

bin laden had used the US involvement in Somalia in his propaganda as a weakness in US--18 dead and the we lose interest. I think this time the US and the public will support the military action all the way.

And Joe, yeah, I think this film will have a lot of blood and gore like the real thing. Did you like Ridley Scott's last movie, Hannibal? A SEAL medic in the fight, I recall it was Master Sgt Martin (?), looking throu Who's who, was blown in half by RPG and here're some photo from that scene. http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=9269
