Oh man, I just looked through the new AWMA catalog. What a bunch of cr@p. Is this what MA has come to? Blue and glitter colored kama? $130 for an ALUMINUM katana that you can't even PRACTICE with because it's aluminum? $9.99 for a small tin of Tiger Balm? $19.99 for 2 OZ of dit ja jow? $39.99 for two "miniature" Tai Chi swords on a plastic green background? Jeez.

Looking through the catalog I was conjuring up images of these ****s doing forms with their flourescent nunchaku, while their moms cheer them on with "martial arts mom" t-shirts.

And then the photos in there... some guy is instructing these girls how to do a horse stance, and it's gotta be the worst posture I've ever seen. Does karate have a different horse stance or something?

Why is commercial MA equipment so crappy? Hey, anyone want some razor-thin nunchaku? Or how about some convert-a-chucks? Or an extendo-tai chi sword? What the shít would you do with that?

Oh yeah...let's not forget the 6 year-old black belts competing on ESPN with the bleach blonde mullets, kiai-ing like cats who got their tails crushed under a rocking chair. But I guess you need an audition tape for the casting calls of the next "3 Ninjas" sequel from somewhere.

I remember the 6 year-old with the bleach blonde mullet (And a black gi, by the way)...and what about the "karate tournaments" on ESPN that look more like a "Yelling tournament"?...the one who screams the most and twirls the weapons better, gets the prize.

Or the AMERICA FLAG gi's.....like a lot of the TKD peeps around us are wearing...it's getting REALLY SCARY!! You know the funny part.....the american flag and camoflage karate belts i have seen lately.......make me pee my pants laughin'!!!

I was actually considdering buying a "extend-a-chuck" since it's the only weapon i know and it's portable. But someone told me it had crappy balance and was hard to manage because of that.

Still that would propably be my only choice of weaponry.

I REALLY hate this f u c k i n g commercialisation. I started Kung-Fu to learn KungFu, not to pay a £60 start-up fee for a tee-shirt, trousers and a ****ty pair of bag gloves. My old Judo class was £2 a session and you bought your own gi.

God dam ned commercialisation makes me SICK. SICK YOU HEAR ME.

It was also better when no-one knew about my style, the air of mystery really goes down well with the chicks.......:D

When they were doing double nunchaku forms on ESPN and twirling, yelling and jumping all around. Did you notice they were holding the chucks all the way up by the rope or chain(not saying it's wrong for people who like to hold it that way)but try holding chucks at the other end(low on the chucks)and do those same forms. This way also gives you a longer reach.

What the hell does hip hop have to do with martial arts

logic, that's called short-hand style. It allows for some wrist twirling, as well as an overall faster speed. Long-hand, as you say, gives a longer reach, but slower twirling, and diffferent techniques.

Dear Sir/madam,
I am interested in purchasing a camoflage karate belt.
My questions are:
what grade do I have to achieve, before I am entitled to wear this attractive martial accessory?

Also I have been trying for quite some time now to locate a supplier of spangly glitter incrusted Kama. DO you perchance stock such an item?

any help would be most appreciated

your sincerly

Colin.........

I absolutely hate this new trend of MA. Camos, glitter kamas, blonde mullets, spangled gis, Muzak playing while doing forms, screaming kiais like you're passing a half-pound kidney stone. This stupid sh*t isn't martial arts, it's Gay Pride dancing and it needs to stop now.

People already have enough misinformation when it comes to MA, we sure don't need this ridiculous garbage to further cloud their minds. MA is a lot of things, but it's not a f*cking Broadway Show. At least, it shouldn't be.

i remember when i did Shotokan Karate (before changing to chinese martial arts ;)) that we had a 'friendly' competition against a visiting American karate club. It was arranged short notice, so my team was all training the day before, sweating like monkeys, then we drove the 4 hours to the city we were meant to be meeting in...

the next day we were all ready - all wearing sweaty Gi's - no 2 alike, all nasty thru training and the other team all came out wearing stars and stripes Gi's. They looked very nice - and with all their supporters to cheer them on. Well, they looked good and got their asses whooped by us smelly lot.

it sure made their creative forms look fancy though :D

So what grade do i need to be to get my glowing yellow with black polka-dots belt? Does it cost $9.95 if i master these postures and sign a declaration? i guess i'd better train hard :D
