Do you guys and gals think it is possible to take bad training, or watered down training, and turn it into good MA? What do you think it would take?

good training.

Unless your a genius, you've got to learn from those who know.

Agreed. If you are taught sloppy technique and repeatedly practice that sloppy technique, then guess what? You'll be fight that way. Also, assuming that you had no previous MA experience, how are you going to make the corrections to yourself? If you've never trained before, you don't know that you are learning bad technique, so you don't know to try and correct it.

Cool! I'm in someone's sig! 'Bout time you all realized the superiority and quoteworthiness of my writings

It would take an intimate knowledge of the principles involved in the "correct" version of the art. This knowledge would require years of training in the good stuff as a prerequisite. It would be unlikely that someone with such background would settle for grossly inadequate training in the first place, so the whole thing remains rather hypothetical.

Since knowledgeable and well-trained people don't often waste their time with poor training opportunities, that leaves the uninitiate...those who don't know any better, and thus the "watering down" is continued.
