When anyone talks about 8 fists, they are talking about the original Lion's Roar system which was a collection of certain techniques developed by the founder. Rather quickly the system expanded. There are clearly more than 8 fists now but the exact number seems both random and dependent upon the particular tradition. Ng Yim Ming talked about 12 fists. Chan Tai San talked about 18 BASIC fist strikes, though actually a quick count of the strikes he taught generally to all is even more than that

these are considered our 18 basic fists

1. gwa choih
2. kahp choih
3. pauu choih
4. bin choih
5. chyuhn choih
6. gok choih
7. so choih
8. cham choih
9. pek choih
10. jong choih
11. jit fu choih
12. faan paau choih
13. pak yik paau

15. jyuhn choih
16. chaap choih
