what are the difference in these two concepts in a martial sense?

arhat boxing is less well known, while lohan is quite wide spread and has different manifestations.

anybody here been taught both? what do you find different about them as forms or concepts? Do the religious significancies have meaning to the forms of these two kung fu sets/styles.

Also, do you think that these styles are buddhist interpretations of taoist styles?

Arhat = Lohan

At least in Buddhist theory anyway.

I too thought the terms were interchangeable.

lohan= enlightened one who remains in the cycle of birth and death to help guide others to enlightenment.

arhat= enlightened one who decides to not remain in the cycle of birth and death and instead releases themselve from it.

both enlightened, yes, but still different.

from the buddhist religious sense we see why the are same but not the same.

so that will kick that topic back to the top ;-)

I think Kung Lek is mistaking luohan [lohan] with boddhisatva [puti in Mand. I think]
Luohan = lohan = Rakan = arhat = Arahant

Luohan quan, also called arhat boxing is probably the oldest shaolin style, actually it may very have been the very name of the martial art practiced at shaolin, which later get known as shaolin quan.

check some articles about this style[s]
