How Do You Make A Fist?

Just went with my freind to his sons issinryu karate class at school and had a breif disscussion with the instructor about why they make their fist like that. He said the thinner projectile penetrates blocks better, I said OK, he then said and it is the strongest way to make a fist....... I said your kidding right? he saids no try it, so I did and then I shook my head, and said OK try it my way. After he did he replied your right your fist is much more solid than the tradtional issinryu fist.

For those of you who know the fist, no what I am talking about but for those of you who dont how do you make a fist?

I don't know how Issinryu karate's fist is like, but I do know how Shotokan's fist is like. And I agreed that I think the Kungfu way of making a fist is more solid.
so far I learnt two different ways of holding a fist.
First the usual style which is your regular fist but the fingers
are lined up so that the the fist is flat.
The second I learnt from Yang style taichi which is also make your fist flat, but the thumb is held tucked in on top of the pointing finger.
I personally prefer the first method.
