I would like to start doing a knuckle conditioning method where you hang a canvas bag filled with sand from the ceiling and you lightly punch the base of it with your knuckles. But first, I would like to know a few specifics about the best way to do it. 1. What is the optimal number of punches that I should do per hand? 2. What is the proper way to align my knuckles when I am punching the bags? 3. How many days a week should I do this? 4. How many times a day should I do this? Thanks in advance.

Also, do you need to shake your hands out while you are doing it, as well as after doing it?

Iron Fist Training is not conducted in that manner.

Worse if yuo don't even know how to align it is a waste to even try. Ask your teacher.

Also, it will not be detailed here.

You might also want to think about initially conditioning through knuckle push-ups prior to going to the bag.

Peace.

Shaolin Master good advices as what he's posted shows him going to problems to get more problems & the right way is Sifu right to say I think as his student is the one who does it right & gets good results or screws up & has messed up hands. Sifu can see each day which way this thing going as one bad day of training not too bad but many days of bad training & the damage might be done too much to fix. I wonder why guys don't ask Sifu these things as they're okay to do & maybe even needed to do but only with a guy watching who knows whats right & whats wrong.

Agree with Shaolin Master and Diamond Talons. You can mess up your hands if you dont know what you are doing. have to have a sifu who can direct the practice- get it started and check from time to time to see whether its going right.

Different styles also have different hand formations based on the proper structure and body engine usage.

Yuanfen hi & I hope things good for you & dammed good point I didn't see about different hand shapes as I got Hakka Tong Long view only which isn't so good a way to see things like this so thanks for the good add advice. Still no answer from guy as to why he not go right to his Sifu as stuffs like this can be very good or be very bad & not bad like in bad shapes but bad in screw up the body which young guys don't think much of but it sure comes back with age as I see this stuffs all the time. Why should we not be better & enjoy more things as we age as doing a hand the right way must add to a guys life & not take away from it I think.

And of course, you must have the RIGHT Dit Da Jow, or else your
hand will get arthritis!

We just put our a video on different iron skills by Grandmaster Alex Tao (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/prat102.html) . It's worth checking out - especially when you compare to other programs. Tao breaks more than most Iron Palm specialists and the price of this vid is a mere fraction of what the others ask. We also offer it as a kit (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/tckprat102.html) complete with herbs and bags. I excerpted some of this video, specifically the iron fist part by coincidence, in our
latest issue, (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/kf200115.html) so you might give that a look too.

dit da dit da dit da....do yourself a favor and dont train iron fist or palm without the rite and good dit da...secondly beyond arthritis..if practiced wrong iron palm can lead to heart problems..the shock going up your arm(heart meridian)is going right to your heart..im not trying to scare you out of doing it personally ive been doing iron palm/fist training for years with no problem but..talk to your sifu or search one out that knows what there doing..and if there hands look like there a mess..then they most likely dont know what there doing..as far as shaking hands..most systems that do iron palm have differant (depending on system) chi gung to perform before and after...
