Okay Gene, now that the past week's quiz is over with, can you tell us what the Chinese equivalent of the Sai is? I knew all the others, but not that one, and couldn't find a copy of the magazine to look it up.

C'mon, Gene...please?:D

The sai was definately a stickler for most people. The Chinese sai are a derivation of chinese bian with an additional sword catcher guard, so it's a little tough to categorize. What I found amuzing was that several entries called them "hairpins." Now I sport a long hairdo, but I'd have to have major dreadlocks before I could support a pair of sai with my hair. Not sure what the Chinese translation of that would be - Fa jia? Does anyone know the source of this reference?

Maybe we'll find out in the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon prequel - doesn't that have hairpin in the title? I find this kind of funny since I wrote and article on bian referencing CTHD, then mirrored it with the following article on sai referencing the Mummy Returns. Prophesy - between the lines.
