Hi.

How about installing the USB-Driver for the Cam??

Have you reloaded F.R.E.D. (Computer) yet??

You may need to install the software and drivers first. Some things have to be done that way.

If you are running Windows, go to Control Panel, to Add New Hardware, and tell it to search for new devices. The first type it should search for are Plug N Play devices. If it doesn't find it, tell it to search for devices that are not PNP compatible.

If you can't get it to recognize it then, maybe it's a bad cam, or a bad USB port, or maybe you're running a version of Windows that does not support your cam. There may be a patch you can download. Are you running Windows Me? I am, and it's picky about some stuff.

Anyway, this is about as far as my know-how goes, so maybe someone more knowledgeable can help you from here.

Hiya.

The term "Plug & Play" is deceiving, no it doesn't mean you simply lug in a gadget and it works.

It actually goes back to the older Days when most extra Hardware needed either a new Board installed on your machine or you needed to do some changes on the harware manually.
Like a Video Driver Card, or a Joystick Board.

So instead of having to install/configre Hardware most Drivers are now either:
A:) Software driven, a Program that does the Job of the ol Card.
B:) Working on a generic Standard, so that a "default" driver allows you to use it, BUT you still need to at the supplied river for the fancy extra features.
C:) Firmware driven where you do the configuration via your Internetbrowser(Modems/Routers,etc)
But you still need that extra bit of "driving component" either a PC-Card or a Software Driver.

BTW, Web-Cams are very finicky on which OS they will work, and which Software they support.
Most will only work with about 2 or 3 Software packages.

Q for the IT-freaks:

Q: How do you know tht you have been too long in IT.
A: Punch cards, F.R.E.D., 8inch Floppies are all familiar do you.

is it a usb card or is it on board?

cards make the cameras even more finicky.

Is the product Belkin? I've had several products from that company. They claim to be totally plug&play, come with no software and then don't work.

uh, yes i installed the software (a CD-ROM), restarted my comp. and then plugged in the DAAMN thing, and i think it detected it at first, but something was wrong, maybe, i wasn't really paying attention.

I've try re-installing, but i haven't un-installed
but nothings happening when i plug in.

I'm going to go play with it some more.
what is the cam. labled as (under) in the hardware thingy (thats a techincal term by the way)?
and what the heellll is a USD drive anyway?

Download a program called Morpheous. Go to www.cnet.com and do a search. You'll find it.

Once you install this program you can find damm near anything on the net!!! If your going to install a new O/S, got with Win2kPro. Forget 98. Will be unsupported by MS soon, if it's not already!

I have morph and Kazaa (same thing) I can't find some of the games I have been trying to find. Do you or anyone know of any other file sharing programs other than Kazaa that has a large selection of games? I have heard of Gnutella (? spelling) but have not tried it. I also buy most games I down load but it is god to really be able to test it out before I shell out all of the money, I'm sick of paying for cra py games.

Gnutella is another good program. The only other way that I can think of, and it's kind of a pain, is just lookin on warez sites.

www.warez.com

You have to deal with lots of pop-ups and banners and porn stuff, and clicking on multiple banners to get access to a sight, but eventually you'll find what you are looking for. Morpheous and the like are just so much easier, they take out half the bull, but your right, sometimes you can't find anything. in that case, you have one of 2 choices, pay for it, or go through the bull of a warez site.

you read/hear someone say "Plug n Play?!?? Yeah, more like Plug and Pray!!" and chuckle to yourself, quietly, under your breath.
