Thus in the 80s they came out with Modern Sport Wushu, consisting of newly made Taolu (forms) and half baked Sanda. The truth is, neither Taolu nor Sanda is rooted in Traditional Kungfu, even up till today. Why? Because most of the important tenets of Traditional Kungfu is already lost on the Mainland. Modern Wushu could not use what is left as its root even if it wanted to. But we shall not discuss Taolu, but Sanda. If we open our eyes wide, we could see that those fighters who are proven champions in Sanda today have all not practiced Traditional Kungfu before. For example, anyone can see that the superb, at times fancy kicking skills of former King of Sanda Liu Hailong are actually from Korean Taekwondo. The current King, Yuan Yubao is no different. Then there is Nashun Gerile, whose fast throws are obviously developed from his Mongolian Wrestling background. All these skills may be useful in the Sanda circuit, but at the end of the day, they are still not Chinese! Sanda in reality is just a mixture of Boxing, Taekwondo & Shuai Jiao, the only component that is partially Chinese. In all the previous Sanda VS Muaythai Challenges, though Sanda claims to represent Kungfu, they are actually deceiving themselves. So how can Chinese Sanda, without any roots in Chinese Kungfu, ever surpass Muay Thai, which is so firmly rooted & has such a long combat history?

LOL, this guy's hilarious...any thoughts??

I can't see how anyone can believe that not a single person in Mainland China knows traditional wushu, but they have no problem believing that all these crackpots and con artists in the west are 'authentic'...

and its also amazing that this guy can tell the entire training background of an athlete by watching them fight a few times. Its one thing to say he uses TKD rather then wushu when he fights, its another thing to say he's never studied traditional wushu at all, ever in any way...

oh well, he thinks he's right, no point arguing.

Let's see roundhouse kicks, side kick, front kick, hook kick, etc... all standard kicks that one would see in TKD but wait yes you see those in Wushu / Kung Fu. Oh & hey TKD has it's roots where?

Billy Chau, Denis Alexio, Don Wilson, Tom La Roche... North Americans that started out in Kung Fu and then became kickboxers... oh and I don't recall seeing any of them doing any techniques that resembled traditional CMA. Well there was of course roundhouse kicks, side kicks, front kicks, etc...

Traditional does exist in the Mainland. Yes some of it did fall into hard times during Cultural Revolution, some teachers were sent to jail, etc... but it did not totally dissappear.

Put gloves on someone regardless of what their background and will change what they do. Then in the case of something like an organized sport ie sanda, people will find the formula that works and adopt it ie; boxing hands...

Even if sanda doesn't exactly reflect traditional Kung Fu it is still Chinese in origin & is still an exciting sport.

Sorry to put it bluntly, but Crane69 is a moron. Watch the king of San Da circuit and you will see very plainly the "Chinese" quality to the techniques. I've never seen a Thai boxer do "elbow locking throw" or "Part grass and seek the snake". The side kick is a CLASSIC CMA technique, the Koreans probably got it from China.
