How many of you train headbutting, or look for headbutt applications in your training? How do you think using the headbutt from say, clinching changes the dynamics of close range fighting? From a grappling standpoint, how do you train to counter the headbutt?

headbutts are within the forms but are not always evident.

defence against them in a clinch face to face is avoidance and clearance from the immediate threat, they are hard to defend against in a clinch.

when they are used to strike the midriff while tackling, the back of the neck push down while going with the run or sprawling will defend well against it.

the bone of the head is pretty thick from about an inch above the brow all the way to the crown and across from about an inch in front of the ear.

the back of the head is not the best part to used as it is in proximity to the cerrebellum, primal brain, medula oblongate and is also at the connecting point to the spine. the top crown at the back is fairly safe to use when you are held from behind.

at the very top of the head is a sensitive spot, especially if you are under 20 years old in which case all seams in the skull are not 100% sealed, just as the fusion of the bones has not taken place yet to the hardness that is seen in full adults.

btw, they know that teens bones are not fully fused until adulthood after the age of 18-20 yrs old from one of the dating methods used to identify the ages of people who are only skeletal such as archeological specimens.

so play safe.
