Ok, this is ****in me off. My elbows been injured for like 2 months now, and i don't know what's wrong. I went to the doctor, and he told me it should take about 6 weeks to heal.

I got one of those tensor bandages, and used jow, but nothing has helped really. It IS alot better than it used to be, but it still hasn't fully healed.

Will i ever be able to throw a hard punch again?

Help, any thoughts?

How'd you injure it in the first place?

chain punching

my first recommendation would be to check the form on your chain punch and make sure you're coming straight from your center and not "pistoning" or "bicycling" in any way.

Hi Jeff.

Sounds like your elbow might have some serious internal damage. Bone nerves, joint lining, etc.

Did you go and see a western or an eastern doctor??

I find too many western Doctors kinda prescribe one course to see if it works and if it doesn't than it is onto another one.

Maybe you need to go do a Doc that specialises in Sports or MA related Injuries.

Apart from that I would as mentioned review my technique to prevent a possible re-occurence.

"Ok, this is ****in me off. My elbows been injured for like 2 months now, and i don't know what's wrong. I went to the doctor, and he told me it should take about 6 weeks to heal. "
* You need to remember there is a big difference between 'healed' as in useable and 'healed' as in can throw full contact punches and take stress to the joint.
When i broke my arm i had the same thing i was told it would be two months untill healed. They where right, but i didnt get my strength back in it for at least another month after that.
Take it easy and give it a bit of time dont force the joint into doing things its not ready for.
Remember when most people ask the question 'how long till its healed?' they basicaly mean when i can i start to USE my arm not when can i start kung fu.

Hi Jeff.

I have bassically 2 Doctors:
1.) standard Family Doctor for sniffles and like.
2.) Chinese Doctor that knows the MA that I am doing, and is qualified to treat Injuries related to them.

Also keep a close line of communication with your Sifu regarding your Injury, which I am sure you are doing anyway.

I have seen too many Students that hide their Injury or problems from their Instructors, or guessed they somehow are aware of them.

I have basically 5 Doctors.
One for my sniffles and large addiction to muscle relaxants.

One Chinese Dr who I swear hates me because I'm whitey and is trying to pioson me.

Another Chinese Dr who is actually Korean and is happy to take any buisness he can.

My chiropracter and my shrink. :D

Hi Jeff.
I know a couple of my fellow students had problems
with their elbows and punching. The problem was they were
hyperextending their arms when they tried to put power into it.

You might want to check for this in your punches.

Watch out for inflammation in the elbow joint. If you got it and it doesn't heal properly you can get serious problems in the future, like chronic inflammation.

A cortisone shoot administered directly into the affected joint works miracles (by a doctor ;) ...

Thanks for the replies guys.

There is no inflamation or swelling, and i don't beliee their is any internal damamge because it doesn't hurt that much. (only when i do tan sau, and punch hard).

I haven't trained for two months because i don't want to damage it even more, and i'm going to wait one more month, so i am listening to my doctor. Unfortuantely i'm not aware of any eastern doctors in my area.
I'm going to start training in march, but i will take it easy for quite a while. Is this a good idea? It's just that i've only been training for 5 months, and i'd haaaaaaaaaaate to quite my training already.

Hi Jeff.

If this happens after 5 month may I suggest that you check your stances and go over the basics again until your elbow is healed.

A lot of Injuries are often caused not by the punch motion/impact itself, but by being off-center, unbalanced, etc.

Man... I feel sorry for you... Can't get any eh?
I suppose you could always use the other hand, but you sorta become atached, a bond with the right hand... It's just not the same with the left, almost feels like your cheating on it eh?

Do you mean if it's still hurting after 5 months?

**** i hope it doesn't take that long.

Hi Jeff.

Sorry, my bad.

You mentioned you had only been training for 5 month, and I think it
is easy to get something wrong esp. when you do a lot of Solo work.

So, IMHO, it is always good during such a restup Period to re-visit the basics and check that you still got them down pat.

Sorry, for the confusion.
