does anyone know of movies that have SPM, Bak Mei, dragon etc. as a major fighting style in it.
i have The Prodigal Son which is Bak Mei v's Wing Chun.
Are there other movies that have fighters specializing in the system with good scenes using the systems for fighting.
Hung Ga has alot of movies using the system so i don't want to know about that,(no offence, ihave many movies with HG)
if anyone knows of any, please feel free to name them :)

It is great!

Spiritual Kung Fu has good 5 animals.

Iron Monkey (duh).

Tai Chi Master has Chen and Yang.

Revenge of the Tai Chi Master has excellent chicken style.

Tai Chi 2 had a bunch of stuff fighting Yang.

Wing chun fights a guy who I swear throws in some dragon stuff and that's why he bests her.

WuLin, there's a video store on 40th and 8th in NYC that sells really bad copies of any movie you could want. Thanks for the "Return of the Scorpion" hint. Saaaaaay.... as one poor person to another, wanna trade copies of copies?

In my opinion this is a not that a good movie, but I like it only cause it was based on the exploits of Chueng Lai Chun. It was made in Taiwan and the bak mei shown in the movie looks very bad. But then real bak mei doesn't look good in the movies...:)

Hi there,
Just wondering why you made the comment''Bak Mei doesn't look good in movies''
Have you seen The form 'Sat Batt Mor'
Asthetically it looks amazing. It also looks lethal!!!
That is, if it is performed correctly.
The true art of Pak Mei to me is that if there is a confrontation then there are no second chances.
So what you said makes some sense, in that,if there was a film about Pak Mei then there would have to be alot of adversaries for the Pak Mei guy
to take on.If not it would be a very short film.

kull,
the 7 g/master wasnt a really exciting movie but it was one of the only bak mei movies at that time so i think it was pretty good.

i like the part when he say " i smashed him one in the ribs and he got away" and "thoughs bak mei fist are terrible"

cloudone- no bak mei sifu would put sup batt mor kuil on video, its against the rules. sup batt mor is usually kept for the teachers son or bai shee disciple same as mung fu chut lum. :)

F.T,
I have also been told this about Sat BattMor.
Do you agree that it should be passed down this way or can you pay for it?
How many Bai Shee can a Si Fu have? Do you think that if the si fu had no sons that he chooses to pass this on to his students.
Can you tell me were you taught Meng Fu Tut lam?
If so is it a form you learn?
How do you know if you or anybody has been taught Sat Batt Mor correctly? ;)
P.S Why have you not said anything on Lotus Flower thread?

There are different versions of Sup Bat Mor Kiu and as result which is correct is subjec to interpretation. Some Softer others harder, some faster, some slower....etc....though there is a general guiding principle...so which is it??? ah ha!

these forms are paid by blood, sweat and tears, no money can buy them!!

i think that a teacher should teach them, but you have to understand to know these forms is to know bak mei, it is given to disciples that are going to carry on the system and no other reason. i dont think the sons should inherit the system only if the disciples are more interested than the sons or daughters. why should someone be held back because he is not blood.

why teach it to someone if they will sit at home doing nothing. so only selected students get to do bai shee, not everyone.

i know all levels of those forms and different versions as well. differnt power to normal forms, they are performed with yau kung soft power but fast.

it took me over 10 years before i learnt these levels and i worked my guts out for the system, and my sifu. trust and honour is involved in becoming a bai shee.

i will have a look at your lotus thread and see if i can answer it. :)

You seem to know so much about so many things.....
First a Bak Mei expert now a Hung Gar expert, You know all about BFP and YGM. Simon right? Have you always had the same Sifu?

billy_pilgrim

Last week Simon was a student of 5 Ancestors, 5 Families, 5 Animals as well as the Hung Gar. Not too mention having such extensive knowledge of Bak Mei, Bak Fu Pai, & YKM, despite having never studied any of them. We are truly lucky to have such a resource on this board. Why do I bother?

Yes i have seen Sup bot mor, I do think it is a very good looking form when done properly. I haven't learned it b/c my father didn't know it, and also i have relocated so i don't practice under a sifu anymore. Although iam searching...lol

But, i think for movies ppl. want to see spectacular flips, tumbles, kicks...much like wushu and stuff Jie Li does in movies. We appreciate moves like Sup Bot mor b/c we learn martial arts, but regular ppl. want to see real fancy things.

I have copies of a Chinese soap opera called 'The Kung Fu Kid' which features a conflict between a master of Northern Praying Mantis and a master of Southern Praying Mantis.

It's all in Chinese, but pretty easy to follow.

Really great stuff. Good melodrama. More realistic kung fu - no wires.

I am a big beleiver in luck. The more I work, the more luck I have.

Check out Invincible Shaolin there's Southern Mantis Wing Chun etc and of course the scenes where the good guy has to go away and train with the master to overcome the bad guy. So you see training techniques as well not all realistic though but good to watch.

The movie w/ Lee Koon Hung is also called "Duel of the Seven Tigers." It is about 7 Southern Kung Fu masters who have to teach their deadliest techniques to one guy because he has to fight a karate guy!!! Don't you love it....

Unbeatable Dragon (Northern vs. Southern Shaoiln)

It has 2 names, but it's a classic! It has the 5 Venoms, and showcases some wing Chun, Southern Mantis and a few other styles.

This is so typical of southern kung fu practitoners learning kung fu from the movies. These videos are such bad quality in terms of the content - it's just terrible!

One thing the movies show is that Southern Kung Fu only works in the movies.

I don't know a whole lot about Bak Mei style, so I don't really know what to look for if some is claiming to perform it. Jackie Chan said that he liked using the Bak Mei "style" in his movies becuase it looks ferocious. When he mimicked a couple of movements very briefly when stating this, it looked very much like the form he was doing in Dragon Lord, when he was supposed to be practicing in the abscence of his father. If this is anything like Bak Mei. then this is really an impressive looking style.
Plus they also said that Jackie Chan was doing Bak Mei in the movie City Hunter. So I have no idea what sets it apart...Thoughts? Are there any mpeg files on the net with a section of the Bak Mei system to check out? Would like to know...

Nope

Learning kung fu from Jackie chan. Oh waht about that move where you do a jumping spin kick and takes out a room full of opponents.

What about in police story where Jackie spits scotch on his opponents and sets him alight with a match. It must be a classical Southern Dragon Style called the angry red dragon breaths much fire.

You.... Not here Kelvin try again!

My favourite is Big trouble in Little China. The character with lightning was so popular that it later became Raiden in mortal combat!

You can learn all the high level kung fu moves like becoming imortal. Must be from southern mantis kung fu.

Valid,

Is dog one of the animals in the movie - besides being the movie itself?!

Watch the movie The Animal - same producers as Duce Biggallo! it is Animal Kung Fu in the finest form.

Vlad,

Yes, there is a classic movie with Dr. Fu manchu. i think it's got that guy who starred as the Pink Panther. Anyway it's been ages since i've seen that movie. It'll be cool to have a nick Fu Manchu. If not for my ego, I would consider that!

There is this Hong Kong series titled "Nam Kuen Choy Lee Fut" which was made in the late 80's. Its quite an entertaining series based roughly on the life story of Chan Heung. It covers how Chan Heung learns from Chan Yuen Woo, Lee Yau San and Choy Fook and becomes a very skillful kung fu master. The kung fu moves of the series may not be spectacular but good enough for kung fu enthusiast who are familiar with CLF to pay attention as it attempts to portray real CLF, you know the kwa, sau, charp etc.
