Yeah,
Its been there for about a year now.
'Dicos', a Chinese KFC imitation, but more expensive and not as good. I have no idea what they were thinking with the name. But there are a lot in China, there is also one in DengFeng.
It is at the main entrance plaza for the Shaolin area. Which is about a mile from the actual Shaolin temple building.
Its technically just outside the area, but it is a bit strange having a fried chicken joint at a buddhist cultural site. Its not even that popular.
Although, there has been a hamburger place in the Wushu guan theatre, INSIDE the area for a while now.
The Shaolin temple used to be surrounded densely by settlements, even having week markets outside the gate which sold meat. The idea of an isolated temple in the mountains is kind of naive. Those places do exist, but they are not the size of the Shaolin temple.
Yeah right...thanks RDH.
I still want to get back there at some stage again - its a special place regardless.
Like to get up Songshan mountain again ;)
Somehow Shaolin Chicken or Shaolin Ribs has a campy SNL type of eating humour:D
Would you like a Shaoin Fish Sandwich or a Shaolin Veggie Burger?
They should have gone with Kung Fu Tacos.
The front gate is run by the municipal government and the tourist board, not Shaolin Temple. I know the Abbot struggles with them constantly as he has implied as much in private conversation. He does take the blame here as it is Shaolin, but it's probably not out of greed this time. It's probably more of a concession (pun intended ;)). But srsly, this is the same Abbot who waged war on Shaolin sausages and holds that victory as a major pride point.
