I was wondering if USA's master wing (kowk) lam and Brazil's master chan kowk wai are related because they both share the "kowk" in their names.

Last name Wing and last name Chan. Not necessarily related.
Kowk would be like two guys named Joe being related.
They are only related by lineage. They are both Bak Sil Lum masters.
Wing Lam's surname is actually Lam. He 'Americanized' it as many masters do when they immigrate. The Chinese order would be Lam Kwok Wing (Lin Guangrong in Mandarin).
They both studied with Yim Shang Mo as well who was principle student of Gu Ru Zhang (Ku Yu Cheong)
