Nope!!! turbo...can you answer?!
Tracy Brothers Kenpo, and he did not reach black, You can ask any of the old Tracy Kenpo people... I did.. there are still a few of the original black belts around from the first Tracy bros schools right after they split from Ed Parker....
That's quite different from what I was told!!! Why would I be told one thing, and now you different? More lies to validate Shou Shu???? Again, this doesn't make sense?!
Nothing about shou shu makes sense.
are ya gonna tell us, im confused now :p

LOL...ok ok ok...This is what I was told. When I was there for the "introductory lessons", I was told that Da Shifu Ralph Moore was a black sash in Hung Gar! I was told that Shou Shu doesn't waste movements or learn irregular stances that Hung Gar has you learn. Said that Hung Gar wasn't as nearly as effective for self defence as Shou Shu was, and with Shou Shu you would be able to generate more power!
Being that I had studied some Hung Gar, not much mind you, but some, that really didn't sit well with me!! I have seen a lot of good Hung Gar players before seeing Shou Shu and afterwards, and can't even fathom where or why someone would make that statement!!! None the less, I no longer take lessons at Moore's.
hung gar has a black sash?
wouldnt have guessed that one anyway as i was thinking of other stuff :D

:)
Yeah I heard about the hung gar as well.. the Tracy Info came from a realiable source outside of Shou SHu which I will not divludge because I told him I would not but he would know... you know...
So Al Moore Jr has studied many different styles and I don't know what Ralph Moore studies...
Anyway, thanks for the email kungfuyou, i would be interested in the information you mentioned, if you could send me the details in an email that would be great.
Turbo,
The reason I did not want to study Shou Shu is because of the information that I found or did not find regarding Shou shu. The whole story about how Da Shifu was taught sounded too much like a fairytale to me, so I decided to check around. As I found no more information than what was provided to me from Moore's people and website, I became skeptical and chose not to study. It may or may not be an effective art, everyone at Moore's claims it is so. But those are biased opinions to me.
If you have found joy in studying Shou Shu, which in previous posts it seems so, then more power to you. I just so happen to take another road in life. Since it seems like we live in the same area, maybe you could show me sometime what and how Shou Shu is all about. I would be more than willing to learn a little more about it.
As it is, no one at Moore's lets outside people sit in on classes to observe them. This threw up a BIG flag to me when I was looking. Almost 90% of other schools, whether BJJ, Karate, Tae Kwan Do, Judo, Kung fu, Tai Chi, Aikido schools in the area highly recommend that you come down and watch a class or two, Moore's does not.
My experience with Shou Shu has been a little different. I went to one of Moore's studios after making an appointment for a free lesson. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and the instructor was very enthusiastic.
I chose not to join, for the simple fact that the story of Shou Shu sent my BS detector into overdrive.
My favorite quote: The carpet is red to remind us of the blood spilled by the warriors before us. (Or something to that effect.)
This is not to say that Shou Shu isn't effective; it's just not for me.
The irony is that any of the shou shu people could probably take me out.
However, I am happy studying what I study, and I beleive it will pay off in the long-run.
IMT
P.S. I have nothing against practitioners founding their own styles or systems of martial art, just as long as they market it as such. (Isn't that what Kano and Ueshiba did?)
I am getting the feeling that turbo76 is just trolling us. :)
