If you are gonna fight with one, you gotta train with one.
yeah i wear my shock doctor gummy for most of my training sessions.
i may get cancer from it, but i also have had a bad habit most of my life of chewing on 20 oz plastic soda bottle caps, so that'll be the more likely culprit.
nice find on the history of mouthpieces.
The orange peel idea almost sounds tasty...
yea, definitely have to train with it
ditto on the history find...i looked but didn't find anything quickly.
i think the one i ordered was one of the 'gummy' ones.
i occasionally soak mine in mouthwash overnight.
we're gonna get cancer from a lot of other places first i think
how is it overated? just curious, took a chance on it because it was on sale for $5...if it sucks then no biggie.
i did want to match my green boxing gloves though. :D
shock doctors are the win
Cancer is not the problem.
It is something much worse than cancer!!
Water bottles can leach bisphenol A, a xenoestrogen and known endocrine disruptor into your drinking water. It disturbs the hormonal messaging in our bodies. What this means is that men live with decreased levels of testosterone. Synthetic xenoestrogens are linked to breast cancer and uterine cancer in women.
In case you didn't know, testosterone is the hormone that men need to be men.
that's the same argument for men not eating soybean products though...not the same chemical cause but the estrogen like chemical that is in raw soy beans...i know, it's controversial but most things I've raid say there might be a link but it's unclear...
i agree it's better to avoid known things that might harm you but unless one lives in a bubble you can't take a breath in most cities w/o inhaling far more crap than you might get from a plastic mouthguard...or soy products (unless one eats nothing but soy at every meal)
if it's the one I think it is then it's not gummy at all - it's a very rigid mouth guard and I don't like wearing it.
The one i like is this one.
As a back up, this one is also pretty decent.
I currently have one of each already boiled & fitted in my gym bag, though I tend to only use the first.
The gel nano looks pretty cool; but looks designed for someone with less of an overbite than I have.
The power double was the best double I've ever tried, but that's not saying much - I still don't like doubles and I really don't like rigid mouth guards.
EDIT: I go through a decent number of mouthguards myself. The gel max may start to break down if you store it in mouth wash or make the mistake of leaving gum in your mouth while wearing it; but replacing something that costs $10 every year or two isn't a bad deal.
all i read is blah blah blah blah, i am scared of dieing young, blah blah blah
kidding man. i wouldn't worry about it man, seriously. show me a graph where it shows since the world itself uses more plastic, that these effects of it are real and should make me worry.
Yeah, well...since I heard about that I stopped eating soy products.
It enforced a suspicion that I had had for many years while living in Taiwan about the effect of soy on men.
Thanks for that post Master Killer...
Key point is
"..a host of common chemicals is feminising males ..."
Thanks to all for chiming in on all the choices for gaurds. Nice to hear people's opinion on what they are using.
