I dunno, I'd like to do yoga sometime. It also helps to be an atheist, which frees up a lot of the time you might have spent otherwise trying to fill spiritual needs.

Ya know, the thing about TMA in general is that there is such an incredible amount of utter bull**** that permeates the entire world, that it falls on those few legitimate practitioners and teachers to prove, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the effectiveness and worth of what they teach and learn.Quote:
You're probably a birther too aren't you?
lol
LHK, I wouldn't even bother with giving this guy one more thing. His whole purpose here is to diminish anything anyone does in traditional martial arts.
He hates them because he doesn't understand them.
They interfere with his massive ego. the very idea that someone would go through what a typical traditionalist goes through to learn martial art is something he is entirely incapable of.
He fears them because of this and thus elevates his own personal dislike for them.
I'll bet he hates Chinese restaurants too! lol
It does nothing to just say, "Ya know what, **** it, you're just an ******* and you don't get it." - That attitude RIGHT THERE is one of the reasons so many TMA systems are looked at with such disdain.
Furthermore, it does nothing to attack a persons character because you can't come up with an argument that can sway their opinion.
If he, as you put it, "Doesn't Understand them", and you've engaged in a debate with that person about them, then it falls on YOU to provide a legitimate argument. To put yourself in their shoes and understand the reasons for their doubts, and try to alleviate those doubts with a logical, reasonable argument.
With the state of TMAs today and the massive amount of uneducated idiots who are actually TEACHING, you really can't fault ANYONE for chalking them up to utter BS.
I have fight vids, I have wrestling vids, judo competition vids, knock down drag out no rules winner gets $1,000 vids:D
I'm not interested to measures c0cks with you here but you may want to consider calming down bro. We all share a common interest here. We all know how to fight.
Ferocious typing aside I've attempted to share some thoughts of the higher mind on these forums but most people are just interested in personality sparring.
Anyway I'll let you RAGE IN THE CAGE GUYS go at it some more.:D:D:D

true
"that it falls on those few legitimate practitioners and teachers to prove, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the effectiveness and worth of what they teach and learn"
to whom?
"That attitude RIGHT THERE is one of the reasons so many TMA systems are looked at with such disdain,"
again, by whom?
"With the state of TMAs today and the massive amount of uneducated idiots who are actually TEACHING, you really can't fault ANYONE for chalking them up to utter BS"
that is an issue, but for every bull**** teacher, there are larper students waiting in line. You won't save them, they don't want to be saved. You can't enlighten them, they are perfectly happy in their own world. If they didn't do MA, then they would be in the SCA, or Mongol Horde, or at Star Trek and Star Wars conventions dueling it out with Klingon weapons and light sabers.
To whomever you decide to engage in a debate with, on the subject. If you don't engage in those debates, then its a moot point.
By many practitioners who do modern MA or MMA. Or even by people who do TMA who seek to separate themselves from other TMA to try to prove their own legitimacy.Quote:
again, by whom?
Absolutely. I completely agree. The point is more that if you want to sway someone's opinion about TMA, keep in mind that you're (well, you might be, anyway :D) in the minority of legitimate practitioners.Quote:

Too many TMA people debate about the legitimacy of TMA as if there can be no reason to doubt it, because their own experiences with their effectiveness should mirror everyone elses in the world.
Of course, the smartest thing IMHO is just to stay out of the debate, do your own thing and if you want to see the view on TMAs change, get out there and DO. Instead of just post :D
yep, that's about the size of it. There are definately TCMA guys out there who are doing it justice. The rest, I really don't waste my time with them.
I won't enter into a debate, because I've seen enough of them to know that it doesn't go anywhere, and then it's like argueing with an idiot-nobody can tell which one is the idiot.
If you do something, enjoy it and don't feel the need to justify it to someone, more power to you
But that is NOT what happens usually on boards like this. Instead, we get the "you don't know", "you haven't been exposed to the real stuff", and generally speaking "you just suck"
There are huge issues of denile and self justification in the TMA world, and especially in the TCMA world
I like the way many MAists only think of fighting as a duel! If someone REALLY wanted to take another person out, they would ninja their a$$, al a, sneak up behind them with a hammer and brain them!
THAT is true martial arts, winning with the least amount of of effort!
Duels may make one feel manly, but all that manliness quickly disappears when one is confined to a bed (or a coffin) for the rest of their life!
right on, there is a lot more to martial arts than dueling. The best soldier wouldn't necessarily win in a pistol duel, not to mention the paint ball duels that are the closest most people get to.
Well said bro ENJOY WHAT YOU DO pure and simple.
You're right in that many people ((most people)) cave in when challenged about "their thing" and usually end up hanging from someone else's nutts in an effort to fit in.
Shoot
I know Chi Blast Tai Chi cats that can't fight a lick but they get a good work out and maintain the fantasy of being able to defend themselves:rolleyes: and seem happy from the experience.
Now
If this guy wants to crawl into a cage and exchange bodily fluids with another sweaty man hey more power;) Me I got my own thang that serves me in the ways I need be served. I've been in a whole lot of nasty physical altercations and strangely I remain too busy looking good:D
Just a note all that training to go to ground and rassle around. It's all fine and good one on one in the Octagon but needless to say on on the street the guy you rassle has friends who will stomp face off as you try to pass the guard.
Anyway back to bringing home the bacon:cool:
What kind of a society do we live in when ignorance is encouraged, as long as it makes you happy.
What.
This is the major problem in internet discussion. You may respect others opinions but others don't respect your opinion.
You may say, "All religions are good and I respect all religions". But others will say, "You are wrong. Only Christan is good religion. All others religions are evil and should be destroyed." They may also say, "If you are not Christan -> Your are anti-Christ -> you should be destroyed." If you have no religion is as bad as if you are not Christan.
In other words, if you are not a MMA guy, no matter what you have said, you are wrong by default. Even if you may have identified yourself as a Shanda guy but MMA guys will still treat you as a 2nd class citizen just because you have not spent enough time "rolling on the ground".
Its great and all to try and keep a fight standing up. If thats what you're comfortable with, thats fine.Quote:

Its another story when you assume that any fight will stay standing up. That is where you're wrong. You can't predict how a fight will go, and even if 9 of your 10 fights stay standing up, that 10th one will get you your ass kicked, if you don't know what to do when on the ground.
Learning grappling/wrestling isn't just about attacking and ending a fight. Though it has quite a few great tools for that, too. Its about knowing what to do when you have to deal with a fight on the ground.
And the idea that you're never going to have to deal with a fight on the ground, is pure ridiculousness.
