nice meme, irony is, this reminds me of something about Damo, I read in an old Zen book, where the author said Damo attributed what he taught at Shaolin to prior Buddhas or Bodhisattvas who taught him the same way. Suggested that Damo was highly trained before "inventing" the hands. The author also said that at one point, Shaolin knew exactly where everything came from, as did most warriors of the time, yet, wars, and dynastic flux caused destruction of many generations of temples, and history subsequently, not to mention each emperor of a new dynasty put into practice wiping clean every trace of the prior dynasties glory, including any contribution in physical health, warfare/martial art, medicine, science, agriculture, trade, etc. The author relates later that this is the case with Buddhism in general, that due to dynastic politics, and religious politics, little to no generation links can be made soundly to say who certain Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and their students were, and where they came from. Damo for example, you'd have a hard time finding his tribe or origin or original name, and he's considered pretty modern and most popular.
Amituofo,
in my meditation, I dont feel bad or lacking in understanding about Damo, infact we have more knowledge of Damo, and clarity of his teachings, than we do of most spiritual teachers of the past. Though none of that stuff matters in the present unless we are teaching history, it was a great read, and had a lot of links made visible, that connected Damo to Shakyamuni (Buddha) by actual biological relation, and then their tribe was linked further to another land, which is another topic lol.
anyhow pardon the rambling. Amituofo
to relate to Shi De Cheng, with my opinion, I would say what Damo taught was very older than himself, and what Shaolin developed later, was in tribute to the Bodhisattvas for sure. Some forms, move like sutras, infact, most of them, if you really go into them, are a moving sutra. In Shaolin "fist and dhyana becomes one" ..... correct? :)

This video is a little tardy - my apologies for that. I intended to post it back in June but got distracted with our studio reconstruction. It's in conjunction with my article on Shi Decheng Cool It! The Importance of Cooling Down in our SUMMER 2019 issue.
As a happy coincidence, my master Decheng is coming to the U.S. now, so the delay is actually timely.

Shaolin monk Shifu Shi De Cheng hosted by Ipswich martial arts academy
IPSWICH — A local martial arts studio has hosted a Shaolin monk — and martial arts expert — from China.
Shifu Shi De Cheng, from Deng Feng, China, was hosted by Mark Warner’s Professional Martial Arts Academy yesterday.
Shifu taught 20-plus students a Shaolin form that exemplified the fine art of Shaolin Kung Fu.
Warner, who runs the academy on Market Street, said he was “honored to have such a well-known and respected teacher.”
“He returns every year to monitor the students’ progress,” Warner said.
