I wonder how many people who poke fun at Zink train as hard as he must have to attain his amazing flexibility? It may not be required for most kung fu styles, but it is **** inspiring!

Earlier this year, two studies (one, a comprehensive study of studies) emerged to finally put the stretching debate to rest. The results? Static stretching before exercise can actually decrease your muscles' strength (by as much as 8.3 percent) and result in a loss of explosive power -- the kind that's necessary for quick bursts of force. The longer you stretch, the weaker your muscles become. As one study author says, "A warm up should improve performance, not worsen it."
That's not entirely true:
The results specifically reference static stretching immediately before activity. Which makes sense; if you are tearing up your muscle fibers immediately before you are going to use them obviously a dramatic decrease in performance is to be expected. Akin to doing heavy backsquats right before running the 100m.
If you're already limber and just engage an active warm up then greater flexibility is an advantage in both potential explosiveness and injury prevention.
Don't misunderstand, I'm not defending Zink's circus act.
I'm just talking about being flexible, not being able to stick your own head so far up your own ass you can sniff your duodenum.
There is a big difference between "being flexible reduces strength by 9%" and "static stretching before exercise. . . "
Well, no reasonable people really think Zink is doing anything other than sniff his taint
"flexibility" is a poorly defined concept, even more so among "martial artists" and far too many programs do stuff that is not only counter productive but darn dangerous
but I don't think we are really disagreeing on this I guess
