name all the celebrities that studies or have studied MA before?
chad mcqueen, wes snipes, matt damon, van damme, sammo hung, jackie chan, billy zabka, billy blanks, don wilson, brian genesse, sarah michelle gellar - the list is literally endless - why are you asking?
adrian paul, joy bisco, ralph macchio
just curious
Jim Carrey-BJJ.
Does not make a lot of sense to name the celebrities known for their screen MA.

I have read somewhere that Lucy Liu does Silat and Kali... Wonder if its true :)
sure it does, as they had to train, either before or during what they filmed, and may still do it after.Quote:

elvis presley
SevenStar, you missed Jet Li and Steven Seagal (omg)!
James Cagney. Showed his skill in one of his movies too. saw a clip on TV.
Vladimir Putin and the late Yves Klein
that Michael jackson did some Chinese style.
out of all the celebs that do martial arts, i feel that wesley snipes has shown the most improvement. it's like, when passenger 57 came out he looked phony back in those days. his latest movies like blade 1 and blade 2 (definetly B2) show that he's actually committed some time to his MA practicing (and gotten off the drugs i hope). i think it was when i saw money train that i saw the first sign of a decent fight scene with him. he is by no means the best fighter in hollywood, but pretty good. he recently helped organize/host a big tv program commemorating the world's best martial artists.
on that note, who would u guys say IS the best fighter in movies today? I'm betting jet li would kick all their as$es
but movie stars are movie stars acting in a fantasy world, not fighters. So my answer would be, none of them can kick ass.
In the movies? Well, I'll have to say that it's Jet Li.
I recently saw a Comedy Central show with the guy from
"King of Queens''. Big guy, don't know his name as I don't
watch a lot of network tv.
anyway, during the skit he went into a horse stance as part of
the gag. imo it was a practiced horse and not just mimicry.
and at the end of the show he saluted the crowd with the
traditional open hand over the fist salute, again imo, practiced
not mimicry.
Anyone got any knowledge of this actor and his training?
kathy
right, Kevin James, I knew it was two first names
anyway, it is purely my opinion that the horse stance was
one he had at least trained a little. there was an fluidness
to how he dropped into it and stepped out of it.
there's probably a lot of actors/actresses that maybe train a bit
but we never hear of it because they aren't actions stars.
Wes' moves in Blade and Blade 2 looked good, but awfully "Hollywood." He looked more like a real fighter in The Art of War which I admit was a less good film than the vampwacking ones.
Am I the only one that knows of celebs that aren't actors or rockers who train ma? Let me throw out a few more.
Miles Davis boxed.
Rakaa from Dilated Peoples talks a lot about BJJ moves in his rhymes, and is shown wearing a gi in the booklet for "Expansion Team" so I think he rolls for fun.
Teddy Roosevelt was a wrestler.
P.E.A.C.E. from Freestyle Fellowship has claimed in his rhymes to be a two-time black belt, but no art mentioned.
And once in high school a guy told me that Bob Barker (from The Price is Right) could punch through your ribcage, pull out your heart and show it to you right before you died. He may have been mistaken, though.
oh yeah, John Cusack (my favorite actor at that)
Grosse Point Blank had some decent fight scenes.
good movie overall, as well.
and didn't Bob Barker cold **** someone in Happy Gilmore ?
Since I wouldn't watch an adam sandler movie if you put fishhooks in my balzac and dragged me there, I have no idea.
The Bob Barker rumor I heard was decades ago, though. Mid eighties.
Ed O'Neil and Guy Ritchie both study BJJ. The guys from Tool do as well.
that depends on the actor. many of them were training ma before they started, and some, like don wilson had an awesome ring career. I wouldn't dispute chuck norris' ability either.Quote:

"you ain't got enough calcium to have a bone to pick wit me,
like a Gracie, I'll choke a ***** out wit his own gi" - Rass Kass
Dunno if he trains, I just love that line :D
Q-Tip, formerly of 'A Tribe Called Quest' boxes.
I'd venture to say that some of the Wu members have trained in something. I heard some rumors that Method Man does.
sevenstar
'say anything' is ok.
There's a good fight scene between Cusack and Benny the jet
in Grosse Point Blank thats pretty good and only slightly bs.
I just read somewhere that rass kass does indeed train - in filipino styles. here's some other stuff I found:
saafir trained muay thai
Ghostface and GZA trained with shi yan ming
DJ What?! trains JKD and BJJ
Rakaa trained TKD as a kid, in addition to doing BJJ now
Will Smith has two Rotts, named Tyson and Gracie...Who knows?
dude, when do you sleep?!?
I thought I was bad for being up at 7 on a sunday
but aren't you and hour behind me?
I don't sleep much - never have. on avg. I sleep about 4 - 5 hours a day. I slept from like midnight to 5am, and I've been up ever since.
On the Wesley Snipes topic, here's a couple excerpts from some interviews regarding his martial experience (practicioner of Capoeira and Western Sport Boxing):
Think you could’ve been a boxer?
Oh, the trainers are telling you, “That’s great, you look good, you’re so sweet!” You punch the pads and they make it seem like you done punched through five feet of concrete, so you’re a bad dude. You start to believe that crap. “Yeah! I ain’t scared.” Until you get hit.
What’s your favorite martial art?
Sleeping-in-hammock-with-beer-in-right-hand-without-spilling meditation.
OK, what would be your second-favorite martial art?
Between capoeira, a Brazilian-style martial art I’ve been doing for years, and boxing, I’m in the best shape of my life. I like the rhythmic, the fluid, the explosive. The human body is an amazing thing. It’s really amazing to see what it’s capable of doing. I use martial arts techniques—stretching, breathing, and relaxation exercises—in my acting.
You’ve got a reputation as one of the more badass guys in the movies today. Do jokers ever make you live up to it by picking fights?
I’ve had situations where people in the street were acting like they wanted to start something or talk up a little game, and before I had the opportunity to engage them, other people, who are fans, take over. They’re, like, “Wes, don’t even worry about it, I got this.” And they go and handle it. I’m, like, “Wow, I almost feel like a pretty girl!”
Snipes is somewhat funny.
Lack of authority in his presence,I like that.
Oleg Taktarov, "15 Minutes" and "Rollerball".
Ludacris studies Kadochnikova Systema.
Chad McQueen? I just read that, and I have no idea who that is. If you mean Steve McQueen, you'd be right that he studied with Bruce Lee.
I think Chad is Steve's son.
Jessica Alba, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Jay Z.

Correct, he was one of the Kobra-Kai's in "Karate Kid".
