Thanks, Skip J. This comes off my comment on the ICMAC in Dallas, anyone going? thread.
Unfortunately, the 2009 Kung Fu Legends thread was deleted so all that's left of last year is this odd remnant. :o
Here's our old Who's going to Taiji Legacy this yr.? Up for a get together prior to? thread.
And here is the official website for Legends of Kung Fu. Hope to see some of you fine people there. :D
It's been on my schedule to attend since they annouced date. I, also hope to see some more of you there.

or this
:)
You're welcome Gene; it seems that I have a lot of threadjacks recently to make-up for....
See ya'll in Dallas!
I just went to this site to get the dates for the tournament and my computer was attacked. Someone has attached a virus to the site. Make sure your virus protection is up to date before you go there. I sent Chin Woo an email letting them know.
Problem with sites that have a lot of flash media, it is easy to embed something into them.
I'm slated to lead a workshop there.
See How to Write a Cover Story
Thanks Gene; I'm in and no virus attack problems for me.... of course no schedule has been posted for the seminars and workshops yet, but I'll check back often.
I saw your workshop in the mail packet info and was interested. The chance I would write a story that would make the print version is very slim, and a cover story not at all. But to hear your advice on how to write a story for print would be a good thing.. I think!
I requested Fri afternoon or early evening (that way we can all go out for nachos after, right xcakid? ;))
As for the topic, it's marketing. Yes, I will discuss how to write a cover story, but that's a lot like discussing how to win a title belt. There are plenty of steps in between which, not to let the cat out of the bag, is a major point of the workshop. So I hope you can make it, Skip J. Tell your friends too. ;)
Ok Gene - you got me... I'll sign up for a late Friday afternoon workshop..
But if it is scheduled during one of my "main" workshops, you'll have to give me a refund.... It's kinda ironic, my own profession is marketing - writing for business purposes. That means my writing for the general reader is too "stilted". I am going to be interested as to how you meld the two together!
Don't forget that the restaurant needs to be "G" rated for all us old fogeys now....
I'll be there.
I'll be wearing one of these:

When the schedule goes up, you can decide. No pressure. ;)
However, as for the restaurant, in the tradition launched by xcakid, we one rating higher than G. Breastaurants are totally PG. Maybe PG-13. ;)
Well, at least we will meet in your workshop....
Ya'll have a good time now....
Hello Gene;
The workshop schedule is now up on their site - and I will be able to take your class. I'll send my registration in today or tomorrow.
See you then.....
It'll be fun to meet you, Skip J. I asked Patty to schedule me then so I'd have the evening free. Perhaps local xcakid can suss out a nice place for some late night eats and drinks. Maybe we'll get a few more than just you and me this time, eh xcakid?
I have participated that event for the past 10 years. This is is the 1st time that I won't be able to go.
Yeah it would have to late that Friday cause there is a belt test at our kwoon that I have to sit in for. We typically start @ 6:30 and get done around 8:30 - 9:00 PM. Luckily, Twin Peaks is open till 11:00 or Hooter is open till Midnight. :D
Wanna be the special guest judge at the test Gene? :)

Gene Ching is the Associate Publisher of Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine and www.KungFuMagazine.com, the largest English-language magazine and website exclusively devoted to Chinese martial arts. He has authored hundreds of articles and videotapes on the martial arts. Since 1998, Gene has worked full-time in the martial arts as a school manager, weapon maker, antique sword dealer, freelance writer and snake oil seller. He recently published a new book, Shaolin Trips, which documents over a decade and a half of research on Shaolin. He has been covering Taiji Legacy and Legends of Kung Fu for Kung Fu Tai Chi since 2000.
• How to Write a Cover Story - Fri, Jun 25: 4:00pm - 5:20pm
It is the most asked and least welcome question at Kung Fu Tai Chi Magazine: How do I get my master on the cover? If you have to ask, you’ll never know. Cover stories are the most coveted articles for any magazine. Gene has written numerous cover stories, not just for Kung Fu Tai Chi, but also for other magazines back when he was freelance. Gene will discuss the intricacies of constructing cover stories, especially in the current newsstand market, along with principles about how to write about the martial arts in general. You’ll learn what editors are looking for in a cover story or any article submission. You’ll also learn how to read between the lines to get at what authors are really saying, as well as how to write between the lines to say what you really want to say.

Thanks kfson... well done!
However, I must decline. I'm a horrible judge. I'm way too critical in such situations. I've been kicked off judging panels because I score too low. I do appreciate the offer.
Thanks for your support, Skip J. & kfson. I look forward to seeing you there.
having met Gene in person, I'd be happy to get you up to speed on the pre-requisite rites of obeisance and gratitude (including the live nacho-cheese sacrifice) prior to actually coming into his immediate presence;
I also suggest SPF 50+ sun block and UV shades to mitigate the emanating radiance...
I'm just an ordinary guy living in an extraordinary world. Please pass the nachos. :)

Hey taai... excellent advice... thanks for your ..um.... support!
At least after meeting Gene in person, I'll no longer have that to look forward to in the future.......
Who knows... I mite get out the SLR and write a story sometime, you just never can tell...
Ummmmmm Gene, I mite be tempted to use the secrets you teach to write for publications other than CMA subjects....
It will probably move to 7PM on Friday. My flight wound up being a little later, so my workshop has to be pushed back.
I'm debating about how many books I will bring because they're thick bricks of paper and I'm trying to do it all on carry on. I recommend that your purchase my book ahead of time and I'll be happy to sign it for you. Thanks for your support!
Cool, I might be able to make itQuote:
It will probably move to 7PM on Friday
I'll be there too. Dunno if I am gonna attend any workshops Friday, though if I do I have the schedule all laid out of which ones and at what time.
If you want me to sign a book, I'll be happy to do so. Please purchase one ahead of time and bring it to the event. Due to the luggage maximums now and the absurd amount of equipment I have to bring, I can't squeeze any in my carry-on. Sorry to disappoint, but you can purchase it at Amazon, Tiger Claw or MartialArtsMart. Order now and there's still plenty of time to receive it before Legends.
Thank you for your support.
