Youtube channels of Western expats in China growing increasingly toxic

I’ve noticed a growing community of Western expats in China attacking each other on Youtube. With everyone picking one of two sides (pro-China vs anti-China). There doesn’t seem to be much room in-between from what I can tell.

Some of the popular channels in the community are Laowai 86, SerpentZA, China Brand Teacher, Gweilo 60, Nathan Rich, JaYoe Nation, etc.

Both sides often accuse the other of brainwashing, lying, and spreading propaganda. It’s either Western media is a bunch of liars or it’s the CCP brainwashing you. You’re either an Anti-Chinese racist or you’re a Chinese Wumao. You’re either a tool for the CIA or a tool for the CCP. And this community of Western expats seems to be growing increasingly toxic which is unfortunate because it never seemed to be that way when I was an American expat in China ten years ago.

Has anyone living in China noticed a shift or growing division in the expat community or is it primarily limited to Youtube?
