Many WCK people don't...
I prefer to call my WCK pole the Ji Ng Gwun (12:00 Pole), rather than Luk Dim Boon Gwun (6:30 pole). :)
Some WCK pole players do need some viagra. :)
When you throw the pole down, it is considered bad form and taste in martial society.
Spencer, next time I'm in UK, you can cross staffs with me. I'm sure we will have fun with the pole. ...
Looks more like Yip Chun's pole. Yip Ching's pole is different...
IMO, this set was played with a lot of local arm power. The thrusting could be more precise. Maybe a bad day.
WCK is defined as simple, direct, economical movement in the moment. If you do that, its WCK; if not, it's not. Is that the function of Lee Shing's half point? It seems like you stay on the line...
Lee Shing's use of the pole is unlike any other - from where does this double end method stem from?
Ah, here comes JPinz! More SOP/MO! :)
What is so threatening about what Terence says? You can easily put him on ignore or not read his comments. He comments directly and laughs at you guys...
...
Andrew,
Tony is very simple. If Terence says anything about HFY (see for example the other post on where Terence is ridiculing their claims against MMA fighters at...
Tony,
More blah, blah, blah. I realize this is your job.
Phil and I always have civil discussion without bringing in any fantasy emotional baggage. Actually, Phil and I go way back in NYC -...
In college, one has many teachers, in Masters programs, you have many teachers and in Doctorate programs you have many teachers.
There is no big deal in learning more. Who you say your "sifu" is...
Spencer,
Strange? I find that you're strange... ... maybe you need to see more of the world.
Perhaps if you learned from other systems and other teachers, you'd know that what I...
Real stuff is real simple.
What I said speaks volumes. Notice I did not say you block or stick first?
You strike or stab, the opponent moves, and then its over (ideally).
Musashi did...
Jim,
I will try to answer as best I can..
Spear is Northern, but when it went down to the South, they took off the spear head and played with the staff.
Sorry guys, but I do see patients and it gets busy. The pole follows WCK's ideas. You have a Mun Gwun (Asking pole) - it is a strike or a stab. Then you follow up with multiple strikes.
Today's heavy hardwood pole is too heavy and a good training implement. But in actuality, Southern pole practitioners fought with the Shangdong white wax wood poles, which were lacquered or treated...

This one is pretty cool, too.

Old time FMA guys used it during WWII...
Those are some good observations. Yes, polework is modified and blunted spear work.
I don't know if I have seen any "real set"... I learned the pole set from Rick Spain, one of Cheung Sifu's top students in Australia. I'd say that was pretty real. The only minor criticism is that...
When I learneed the Gu Lao pole as taught to me by my sifu, he basically had me learn all the points in a separate manner and then it was taught in combination. Much like how Escrima is taught. We...
The legends are the single head staff is a spear without the point and the tactics resemble the spear. Tan Gwun is equal to the Lan of the spear, Fuk is equal to the Na of the spear and Biu Gwun is...
Since the single head staff came from the spear, I thought some of you would want to see the spear. Since I studied Hung Gar, Lama and a smattering of CLF, I can offer you some insights. Spear uses...
Personally, I feel the name "Luk Dim Boon Gwun" is misleading.
Everyone is always wondering what the half point is.
Some consider it the thrust, others consider it the butt. IMO, I consider it...
Having seen Leung Ting's 6.5 point pole set, I would say its very much the same as WSL's or Chu Shang Tin's set. He does use a different set of 6.5 keywords:
Cheung, Kam, Tiu, But, Chou, Tan, Boon...
Spencer,
This might be more your speed. They say WCK, but it seems more like a Siu Lam 6.5 pole. Notice some of the flowery motions. :)
