He has a teacher, but I thought the issue was that his teacher is not teaching him sparring, and I THOUGHT I read where someone suggested to just get together with his buddies or other martial arts...
Am I "hearing" you guys correctly?? You're suggesting that someone who has never learned to spar go out and spar with people without any guidance or training? Doesn't sound like a good idea to...
Well, we're talking about martial ARTS here...and to me part of the art is the forms. I personally don't think that performing individual moves and techniques are that much of an art. I believe...
sorry thor for saying ballistic stretching at first.....should have said just dynamic.
I should correct myself on the ballistic statement after further research...I thought what I was doing was ballistic instead of dynamic. I know that doing a leg raise in a controlled steady motion...
As eulerfan says....warm up first, and I would say that with any stretching. I actually HATE stretching cold, and using stretching to warm up. I think all these years people have had it backwards,...
this stuff is great...keep em coming.
dynamic and ballistic stretching....static stretching is not the most effective way to develop high kicks, especially cold kicking.
First off, are you COMPLETELY healed from the consussion? As you may know, and not to scare you, but with each concussion you have, the more susceptible you are to getting another one, so be careful.
Okay....where's the best place to get these movies at a good price...of course on the net I mean, unless it's the DC area.
There once was a man named Bruce
Who in the US wanted to turn Kung Fu loose
If not for this cat
We wouldn't be where we're at
Cuz all the other China men
Wanted to keep Kung Fu in Ho Chi Minh

I appreciate all the responses here...it makes me feel like there's some hope after all. I really don't get much practice at it, so I probably shouldn't feel bad. We only get 2 hours a week of...
I'm in the Basic 2 level of our sparring class, where we're doing drills on blocking kicks and punches and beginning one step sparring. I'm a little discouraged because I'm finding that I'm having a...
I'm looking for a good source on the Internet for sparring information. We're doing sparring in my class, and I think they're doing a good job of teaching us as much as they can, but they can only...
Hey MerryPrankster....I see you're from DC, not many people on here from this area. Where do you study? Which School? What style/system?
well, my routine is kinda what I'm trying to find out about....check my original post. my body type is that I carry my excess weight in my mid section, my tummy and chest area. My arms and legs are...
I only use the machine because it really hits the inner part of my chest, and I'm trying to develop that look where you can see that little dip in the middle of your pecs. Do you know of a good...
Well, actually that was the original point of my post....are the 124 or whatever reps of chest exercises too much for one body part. Is it counter-productive....would cutting that down to like 2/3...
I'm doing fairly high reps on the exercises, so I'm assuming I won't really get too big, cuz that's not what I want.
On the diet, I'm doing the low carb thing, so that will help me to burn fat. ...
From my understanding, doing the lower reps, such as 6, is more for building mass, but for endurance and toning, which is what I'm looking for, you do higher reps, like in the 12-15 range.
I'm...
I feel like my chest in one of the areas that needs the most work...not cuz it's puny, but because it's kinda flabby. Anywho, I do a lot of chest exercises during my lifting and was wondering if...
PERSONALLY, I think the notion that lifting weights slows you down is a bunch of mularky. I think the only way it will slow you down is if you get massive and bulky, and that takes years to do, and...
This is kind of more like a poll...
How many of you have acheived success in stretching, meaning you can kick really high and almost do splits (or completely do them) from the old-fashioned,...
Well, I guess that's another reason I feel like I can push hard with my training, because I do have a lot of time to recuperate. I'm in the IT field, and although I have to go from desk to desk...
I don't think it's a case of me doing something that I know will hurt me, it's more of not believing that I'm over training. I guess I just don't feel like I'm working that hard to believe that I'm...
