it's like an inverted version of judo's kata ha jime
yeah, ross is great. I've got a couple of his books.
couldn't see a whole lot, since the clip was short, but be more aggressive. Notice how the guy in the black gi resisted being pulled into the guard - you just kinda fell into it. Same thing with the...
I love the fireman's also (kata guruma in judo) but I have a much harder time pulling it off without the gi.
it happens. that's part of competing. you learn a lot about yourself when you lose, and you are actually somewhat fortunate - you lost from the get go. My first ever judo shiai was the state...
I love this throw as well. It can be hard setting it up though.
ura nage is an awesome technique. I love it.
sumi gaeshi is great.
and 3, kazushi them more. Even if the sweep doesn't make them fall, if it knocks them off balance or is believable enough that they react, that will buy you the time needed to get close.
in randori, don't forget setups and combos. Attack with a lot of sweeps to keep them thinking and to thwart their attacks. even if the sweeps are ineffective, they can set up the bigger throws.
beating new guys is essential in your training. Why? because you can tool them. they are your opportunity to work things that you know you won't be able to work on the mor experienced guys. For...
Sweeps are good attacks that can be thought of similar to a jab in boxing - it keeps a person from rushing in, because they have to be conscious of the sweep. Also, use sweeps to set up the big...
I'm weird when it comes to judo. I am a shorter, more stocky guy, but I have long limbs, so I like long range techniques. I would rather sweep than do throws like seionage and o goshi. hiza guruma is...
don't try to get under someone shorter than you, that's usually a losing battle. sweep them and utilize throws that don't require you being under them, like tai otoshi and uchi mata.
one of the books I mentioned - attacking judo - is all about attacking in combinations. It covers throws, setups for them and follow ups for them. They also cover it to an extent on the judoinfo site...
koshi guruma
How do you throw your o soto?
o goshi and o soto gari can be a pain to land in randori. They are so straight forward that people can simply tense up and stiff arm to keep you away, among other things. When doing those throws, the...
sounds like judo's version of the double leg. It's called morote gari
yeah, there are dozens of guard passes. Can you describe the throw any more?
did you use the tani otoshi tip I recommended, or was it something else? I love tai otoshi, but be careful with where you block their leg. I blocked right across someone's knee once and they tore...
I love the americana. That modified o soto is powerful, but telegraphic., and you're missing part of the kazushi, making the forearm push necessary. Be aware of that when you use it.
Anytime, man. Keep up the good log.
a proper shot is very technical and much harder than people tend to think. They always envision a tackle, which is nothing like a shot. Heck, mine SUCKS, and I am a pick up guy.
for the...
that's all you have to know for yellow? my test was bigger than that. hiza guruma is one of my favorite techniques. Good luck on the test.
definitely. there are 8 directions of offbalance, try to become proficient in one technique for each direction. kazushi is everything.
unless you can get the tap before you guys get stood...
