    Typically, you wanna kick IN at a 90 deg or DOWN,...

    Typically, you wanna kick IN at a 90 deg or DOWN, never up, the reason being that kicking up makes you hit with the flat of the shin and not the edge and the blocker will be blocking with the edge....
