I like it too, it was interesting to read Gene's linked article. I hope everyone's training is going well. Have to admit that I'm not surprised to see that some things never change...and this thread...
Sorry to hear about the hip injury JP. As I recall, you were dealing with/recovering from a hip (or was it knee?) surgery about the time we moved out of shaolin-do.
Probably good to move beyond...
Did anyone ever disprove my late night theory about Shaolin-do having a circus background? Hope JP and everyone from SD I met are doing well.
Here's that old idea (took me all day to dig it out...
Nice to hear your perspective on this WhiteEarp. Please don't be insulted when SD detractors claim you only exist as an alternative persona of someone studying shaolin-do. :D
I don't think much (if anything) was merged into this thread. People have just posted here as a courtesy to keep all the SD stuff to one thread.
I always wondered about EXACTLY why everyone...
There is a shaolin-do book actually...

GC - "I also have a problem with SD's marketing, its misleading. It seems to me that SD people on this thread will say anything t make one believe that this is a real Shaolin system."
Regarding...
OT - I can't wait for 300 either...
GC, I was just commenting on the lack of "real" shaolin. Shaolin was only ONE thing back when there was one place where it was gathered, in my opinion. Reconstruction in pankration from vases and...
GC - "I'm astounded by how much evidence that is unearthed to support the claims about one of the oldest fighting styles to date...In relation to SD the only evidence they have to support their...
To me, kuntao, kung-fu, karate, wushu, tae kwon do, etc. are all just...popular boxes to fit something into. It's sort of meaningless unless you know something about the GENERAL points associated...
Yes, HIS style is a blend. But I'd argue that the top of the page is their definition of a component of their style, kuntao. Notice they define silat as well. This is certainly not the only school...
For Fei jiao, from a deThouars website:
"Kun Tao, also spelled "kuntao" or "kuntaw," has best been described as "old Gongfu." It is an archaic form of Chinese martial arts that has largely remained...
He's been at a boxing gym for 3 years now, his first semi-pro fight is this Thursday...
Citong Shifu - "What are the names of your core stances?"
The ones WE practiced (aside from whatever came up in forms like "broken leg stance") were horse, bow, bird and cat. These were bread and...
Well...that certificate verifies the school wasn't at that time called shaolin-do, at least not internally.
Speaking of the rankings...it cracks me up that 8-10th is called "elderly" master. I...
James D. Hall was the posting name of the Hiang student who put out the first copy I saw of the letter. Seems like he worked as a nurse at a hospital in Pikeville, KY and his teacher called his club...
LV - "His published training dates do not correspond with his certificate."
It was mentioned as a possibility that GM Sin trained informally prior to being accepted into the school. If GM Ie was...
GT - "Something else that puzzled me is something Lorenzo said. That "they" paid big money for a translation of Master Sin's certificate, and they have it why? , from a company on the west coast. Why...
JP - "It also depends on how you translate the "grandson" reference. Is it familial or martial (in teacher to student)."
I'd considered that...but wouldn't "grandson" be one generation removed if...
TTM, I've read elsewhere that 5 blackbelt ranks were all they had in Indonesia. However, I think that reasoning is hurt by Hiang's belt level being 7th. There COULD be an argument made that when GM...
Sorry to drag you in there JP. I only meant to reference the fact that certain parts of the letter are verifiably true.
I have a friend in Isshinryu that does a similar kata called Sanchin as well...
Here's some comments about Sanchin from an Isshinryu site:
"Sanchin practice in regards to the muscle and breath...
I'd love it if you'd comment on your opinion of the validity of this letter Lorenzo. Probably not a Sin supporter as it says "grandson". Probably not a Hiang supporter as it says "10th degree". I...
