Not trying to steal anybodies thunder... but try doing a search on Bullshido.
I think it's San Shou. He said most of their stuff was in clinching range, w/ a lot of throws and ground work (chokes, etc.). I'll have to ask him next time I see him what kind of sparring they did.
On a semi-related note, I was talking to a pretty new white belt yesterday and it turns out he's studied San Shao. It sounds like a pretty cool art.
I liked the clip. Especially, when the San Shou guy throwing the Thai guy over the ropes. Speaking of which, his throws look very similar to the demo videos you posted. The techniques obviously...
As I recall at the beginning of the thread Hedgehogey admitted the SD people he sparred had some skill but shortly after that the thread deteriorated and lost its objectivity.
IIRC, it also came...
I think I would have laughed at the first vid more if I hadn't seen the second.
That was really sad. The "aikido chi blast master" looked kind of old...
I seem to remember Master Sharon saying as much a year or so ago. They also said GMT doesn't collect franchise fees (from CSC). Just what they make from the grand master festivals.
Ok, here's the weird thing. We've had one of the masters at the Denver school more often than not since January. So we've been sparring quite a bit. Mind you I'm not complaining. It just seemed...
Belt levels below brown (CSC western states) basically test when they've memorized their material. So conceivably it could take as little as 4 days. I've never heard of this happening but it's...
I agree w/ these statements. At our school if you're sparring a lower belt you are supposed to spar down to that persons level. Especially if it's that person's first day. It's a fine balance, at...
When you mentioned the name Chewy, I thought you were referring to Shaolin Wookie. heh, heh
When you say realistic feedback are you referring to the level of contact or lack of instruction? Just curious.
BoulderDawg,
This is what, IMHO, you should do. When a form is being taught, at some point, Master Dave or Sharon usually show applications for the form. When they do, remember them. Some of...
Well, he can't be all bad if he lived in Denver. ;) j/k
Thanks for the info. I've only heard the Atlanta school mentioned once in class by a student who said the schools weren't connected and...
You sound like me a couple years ago.
I really liked the school and the Soards but was getting extrememly frustrated w/ not only being pushed to but the ease in which people would pass to the...
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the rift between SD and CSC was between the east and west schools. I didn't think there was any issue between SD and Master Groom's schools.
I asked the...
I'm just a little curious as to what he meant by "unsophisticated". Too direct and to the point (so to speak)? Did he mean elegant? =/
Maybe you were doing the moves at the wrong time of day. ...
You two bring up a good point and have peaked my curiosity. I know each school is run differently but what intensity do the SD'ers here spar?
The level of intensity definately goes up the higher...
Are the feints not working for you or are you just looking to add more to your repertoire? If they aren't working maybe you're not selling them well enough. Or maybe you're becoming too predictable?...
About a year ago I told Master David I was thinking about visiting the schools in the East. He just basically told me to introduce myself, tell them where I'm from and be polite.
Good for you...
So that means us SD people have a chance? :D
*edit*
Am I allowed to include myself among the SD'ers?
I think I'm going to become a monkey stylist. You know, see no evil, hear no evil, etc. ;)
Seriously though, I'm hoping things are/will change for the better. The Soards have always been willing...
JP - What kind of gear are you using? The gloves look similar but your headgear looks much heftier than ours. How much contact would say you can safely make w/out risking injury?
None...
[QUOTE=Leto]But a group of students who all learned a form together should be able to practice it whenever they want. How else do they expect anyone to remember it, after spending only one day...
