The movements in forms in the many different systems of kung fu don't seem to support the idea that kung fu is just kickboxing. There are many movements that would suggest grappling type movements.

Sure it can. Not many on this forum would agree with your views. If you are confident about your views, fine. Move on. BUT your training would greatly benefit if you had a more open mind when it...
The key word is AWARENESS. Move on buddy.
Gloved training (mma gloves can be used too if you want to add the element of grabbing) allows for harder contact and still provide some measure of safety. That should be obvious. And as I stated...
Why nothing's wrong with those sparring practices. ;)
All sparring practices tries to get as close as possible to real fighting. But because of safety concerns there will always be limitations. If you train with the awareness of those limitations then...
The Invincible Iron Man was one of the titles I read as a kid growing up. I really liked this flick. Guess I had no expectations other to be entertained by seeing one of my fav characters be...
Sorry. Not familiar with Hung Gar IV methods.
A taijiquan instructor I know from the Cheng, Man Ching lineage showed me his method of iron vest and it does involve hitting yourself.

Thank you. I meant results as applied to improving the performance of an athlete's chosen sport/field.
I wonder though, what the results would be if you had two athletes of similar abilities and then put them on two different weight training protocols. One power lifting and the other BB (size)...
Are these guys the exception rather than the rule? I personally don't know anyone that big who can move that fast. Then there is the question of how many of these guys are free of performance...
That downward strike movement you mentioned at 0:1-0:16 looks to like a downward pull of an opponent's arm to me. I think executed it could also be a downward pull into a headbutt too.
*Flips two superior thumbs up*
You can grab the arms and use it to off balance your opponent. Maybe break a joint at the same time. My teacher use to say that the attacking limb is a valid target.
*Thoroughly amused, he superiorly breaks his silence. Doubles over, and ROFLHSuperiorAO at the pretense of superiority displayed by inferior minds* :p
*Superior smile widens to Cheshire Cat proportions when Lucas breaks his inferior silence & proving his innate inferiority*
If I sense this guy is being a kung fu BS jerk then I'll give him a hard time.
*Responds superiorly with even more superior silence, then a superior shaking of his head, followed by what is clearly a superiorly knowing smile* ;)
*Responds with Silence. Clear mark of maturity if not superiority*
i seen forum members banter back and forth to prove their ego's innate superiority, but never have i seen a bantering about their superiority. first for everything i suppose. ;)
So you become blond with blue eyes?!?

I usually go by feeling too. I like to finish my workout feeling like I'm ready for my day. For example, I may feel like I have enough to do two more sets if I push myself but I'll stop right there....
I believe so. My workout usually consist of dynamic stretches for warmups, weightlifting (sets of heavy weights for a few reps) followed by cardio.
So that what it's for? ;)
