I can't do any jumping or high kicks without it aggravating my back. Also, had to quit BJJ because every time I rolled back onto my tailbone it caused a disc bulge and caused a lot of pain/numbness....
I thought it would be interesting to revisit this post nearly 15 years later.
I am still practicing Chen taiji, but I see the value in CLF as system that is easier to learn and immediately apply....
That's great to hear!
I've recently seen some videos of Baji where the teacher is using some moves similar to the sau chui. Primarily it's a forearm strike. So I think it can be found in Northern styles.
IMO, the jin used is very different. Chen Taiji looks relaxed but is like a stiff steel spring inside. Choy Lay Fut is more whip-like, using centrifugal force to generate power.
I do Hun Yuan...
Reviving this thread because I'm really curious what connection CLF has to northern styles. A lot of the northern styles have connections to each other, so I'd expect CLF to have a connection to one...
I've been spending most of my time studying chen tai chi lately, but I've been trying to find a technique that might have some connection to CLF sau chui in tai chi. Chen tai chi and CLF share some...
Ha! Always good to have a weapon near the door, right?
Also makes an awesome coat hanger :D
You could do the same set with the dai pah. Same idea.
Aw, that's too bad. It sounds cool.
Tai chi teacher Chen Zhonghua just posted this excellent video talking about the stages of tai chi training.

Print magazines are going the way of the dodo, so it was probably inevitable. Hopefully, you can develop new online revenue sources that will keep the content flowing.

An interesting article on the name origins of the "core" forms of Choy Lay Fut.

I see them now! Much better, thanks.
I would guess a combination of Facebook, YouTube, Reddit, blogs, etc. cut into forum traffic. But it was definitely not helping to get to the forum and not...
That's too bad. I think it kind of killed this forum. New users probably don't think there's any content here.
What happened to all the threads that used to be in these forums?
When you compare forms with the same name, they are completely different in terms of content and sequence. It's almost as if they are different styles.

Glad to see my thread from 2001 at the top of the Tai Chi forum.
Playing with this a bit more makes me think the hands are a set up for a low kick. Anywhere you see a cat stance could be applied as a low kick. Otherwise, why not choose a more stable and/or mobile...
I think in CLF this stance/hand combo is more for parrying a punch. In real application it would probably look more like a quick back step.
A recent interaction on Facebook inspired me to post here..lol. I've been working my CLF again, breaking down the forms and really thinking through applications. I'm curious about the diu ma chun...
Because I have not been able to reach a resolution with the administration of this forum regarding recent events this will be my last post to the Kung Fu Magazine Forums.
I have been a contributor...
I think real question here Mr. Punch, is are you really a homicidal puppet?;)

It was asked in another thread why I ignore listed such and such a person. I'll explain here so I can link this thread to my signature. Kind of an FAQ.
So here goes:
I generally put people on...
