Xing Yi questions

Hi all
I am about to contact a xing yi instructor, but unfortunately I dont know much about the system....can anyone give me some ideas on what I should ask him? His sifu is very well respected, but I got the impression it was more on the modern wushu end of things.....the info I got says they also teach traditional, but I want to make sure it is taught as a fighting art if I sign up.

Ask him what style of Xing Yi he teaches (Hebei, Shanxi, Henan) and ask him if he teaches applications and eventually sparring. That should give you some idea of what his deal is.
