In my opinion, there's other routes for obtaining discipline and fitness, but these options won't give you the empty hand (and weapons if you choose to train 'em) self-defence and offensive skills that the MAs have.
"Let's play Soviet history-- you're Trotsky, I'm an icepick."
When the Poll is over (timed this one)
I will let you know with the results were on other sites.
So far the other Sites have yielded VERY similar percentages in replies.
Have fun.
hehehe
Sheesh Red Fists at least give us some real options...
For me its.
1 Impressing girls.
2 Wearing silk, ohhh yeah.
3 Beating up the weaker and less experienced
4 Making truck loads of cash(I havent managed this yet but i know how its done now).
5 Being a higher rank than the guy down the street.
6 Winning big shinny tropheys.
7 Avoiding Ashida Kims astral spys
8 Looking cool to your friends ( I know kung fu! )
9 Breaking inanimate objects using your hands.
10 Being a part of a cult like enviorment and participating in one of the biggest frauds against the human population since time began, whoops ive said to much
Erherm What i really mean is any Martial artist with a solid few months training can beat a dedicated streetfighter who is experienced and is out for your blood and wallet
Up and down, forward and backward, left and right, its all the same. All of this is done with the mind, not externaly.

Jon.
Sorry, those stats that you want are not available.
Somebody else already owns & copyrighted them.
P.S.: Some Astral spies made me say that.

I agree with Raving Limerick.
If I want discipline I'll join the Terratorial Army.
Fitness I'll join a gym.
The most important thing in Martial Arts is getting the correct teaching.
that's a tough one red (for me anyway). To me, you need and get all 3 things from MA training. But in the poll i picked self defence as you can't really get that anywhere else. But health is the most important imo, as if you don't have that, you can't fight...

Peace is not the product of terror or fear.
Peace is not the silence of cemeteries.
Peace is not the silent result of violent repression.
Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all.
Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity.
It is right and it is duty.
If you have no discipline how do you get fit? If you have no discipline how do you learn how to defend your self?
Feeling rhetorical today.
What a super guy
What is important in Martial Arts?"
