Anyone know of a website on the internet where I can learn the whip chain, with pictures and stuff or do you know where I can get a good video training tape. I got the one from here and its way too fast, they do nothin in slow motion.

In my opinion and experience, this weapon should be taught to you, but, shouldn`t everything? Good luck, this weapon leaves no mercy, learning it that is.
One of my Kung Fu brothers from Ng Family has a very affordable and well taught whip chain video.
It is the coiling dragon whip chain form from the Ng Family Style.
Check it out at www.dynamicfightingarts.com
Best wishes in your training.

I too would reccomend proper instruction, but I've seen a book that I'd reccomend on the subject. I think it's called 'flexible weapons, and it's availible at Beijing Imports: www.fistsport.com. It is very inexpensive, and also covers the rope dart.
All great truths begin as heresy
gene- reread the first post. It sounds like he got one of those and wasn't entirely happy with it
Which one, though? We have two.

gene- do you guys sell any whip chains. How about like a whip chain/instructional video kit?
I bought the whip chain video from Tiger Claw (the Jiang Su Wushu Team one) and I learned quite bit from it. I found it very easy to learn from. I've even managed to learn some of the double whip chain form from this video. I would definitely reccommend it. However, I have trained for almost ten years and have been using the staff and broadsword for quite awhile. I note this because most of the whip chain movements are quite similar to these weapons. I'd recommend becoming proficient in these before trying whip chain. Also, I found Tiger Claw's whip chain far too heavy to learn with. I purchased a lighter one from Li Jinheng, but that's a personal preference. There is also a good book about whip chain and rope dart called Soft Weapons-Nine Section Whip and Rope Dart.
je: We sell whip chains - two models, a 7 link and a 9 link - as well as a video kit. They are all listed on my previous post.
f76: Thanks for the recommendation. The double whip portion is definately an extra bonus to that video. Certainly whip chains should be approached after you have had some experience. Have you seen the Shaolin whip chain video we have yet?

gene i was kidding
Gene,
I have not seen the Shaolin Whip Chain video, yet. I've thought about getting that one, but without having a teacher right now, I've been buying videos of other forms I know to see if I can pull any new information or insight from watching them. I'm just now beginning to work my way into weapons videos using this method. Whip chain isn't to far off.
je: We also have japanese chains, which are a little less ovbious on the street (they make good keychain fobs, like the heavy wallet chaing bikers might use.) We have them in chrome -

come on, man. Some people make their living cleaing toilets, others by flipping burgers. Me, I sell martial arts gear for a living. Give me any chance and I'll use this forum to do what my boss pays for it to do - sell gear. Be thankful, since without that commerce, we couldn't keep this baby running for y'all.
f76: Well, I'll be interested to hear your comments on our videos. The bottom forum (kungfu qigong & kungfumagazine.com) is a good place for comments. And I love to hear a comparison between our two whip videos. Personally, I like the shaolin one for it's spirit, but the wushu one has the double whip, so that's cool too.

Hello,
I bought the 9 section whip chain (Jiang Su Wush Team) instructional video from www.martialartsmart.com and I am having problems with the Right Elbow Hook Spin. I watched it in slow motion several times time and it's difficult to follow the whip chain (obviously the chain looks thin from the distance it was filmed) . Has anyone bought this video and had success with it? If so please provide some suggestions and tips.
Thank You,
WTF
