How many moves to express the essence of WC?

Yenhoi, I agree, and you would think they would be pretty basic but it is amazing how much it is neglected or ignored in general.

Depending on stance, structure, motion and timing...a number of motions can be a single motion destroyer- a pak sao, a yin hand...
so many more- doesnt evn have to be a punch.

ok getting a little zen.How many moves are needed to teach the essence of the system. 1 punch may be the full expression but can you teach the system with just 1 punch?

I ask because for the last year or so I have been trying to find a way to teach the essence of WC to a group of very advanced martial artists. To give some background I am part of a group of martial arts instructors that get together on weekends w/o students around to learn other arts ,fight,spar exchange idea's etc. A good portion of the time is spent on WC. the desire is to learn the basics of WC without having to learn the whole system.It came to me this past weekend while teaching my 5 year old that I could teach the core of the system with a basic stance,2 steps and 6 hand techniques taught as a form. all hand motions are double motions each arm doing a different technique.

So how would you reduce the system to give advanced people an understanding and an ability to use the system or would you even bother?

The essence of WC is its principles which are encapsulated in SLT. Kicking, punching, tan sao, bong sao are techniques to execute and make the principles become a reality.

Yes, but the question was how many moves - I'm not looking to provide an answer or discourse from my rather inadequate knowledge, I was simply hoping to point out that with all the talk of handwork and punches, it seems the legs were being left out of the equation.
