More like the silence between two notes is SILENCE.
I, as a professional concert violinist, will say that you can make great music without any silence between two notes. You can do that by a technique called a SLUR.
Without those two notes, silence is silence. Compartmentalization of life makes it unenjoyable and useless.
And that's why a "white screen of nothingness" is the PENULTIMATE level in Ch'an.
Remember that the highest level in Ch'an isn't a white screen, but a 3-D full-color touch-interactive beautiful one called DAILY LIFE.

The differentiations of samsara/life are better understood when phenomena are seen as empty....having temporay meaning only in a specific context. This awareness can apply to martial arts- when a punch is not a punch?

Unlike you, I see the world as more than "dust".
When I see a neon sign that says "Open", my mind and heart open to the possibilities.

Live is so weird, like dust falling on a monkey's back and baby pigeons opening their hearts and mouths... only nothing comes out except the silence inbetween the silence.

What I see in front of me is "daily life", what Hendrik sees in front of him is "dust".
