    Pilates and martial arts?

    ANY thought?

I think yoga is great, what about pilates?

Shaolin was from yoga, lots of cross over.

Pilates is no better than good yoga. Horses for courses.

I think that Yoga and Pilates are both great cross-training systems, but like anything need to be taught well to avoid chronic injuries. I certainly prefer these exercises to weights sessions, where you can often become functionally unbalanced due to excessive muscle isolation.

I found Iyengar yoga a little bit counter-intuitive to my taiji practice on account of the wide stances and leaning postures, and also because it required so much muscle force. I never really managed to "settle" with it, but I still recommend it to virtually everyone.

Off topic, but I've been wondering Stacey - is your signature from a sufi text?

My sister was big into it when she lived in Washington. I wasn't very impressed. It's ok, but not as special as I think some people make it out to be.

Aw crap, I just spilled my milk on the keyboard.

Pilates is a good course to keep up muscle tone and stretch. It's much better than that awful tae bo, by the way, and doesn't pretend to be a MA. But I think it's a good complement to MA to keep up body tone. (The women in the infomercials are hot, too! )

the woman on the video I watch, talks like she's speaking to children, but her amazing camel toe covers a multitude of sins.

It keeps my attention. It has the benefits of watching porn, plus a good workout.
