Question about MS Word

Ok. When I hit ctrl+b, I get bold

When I hit ctrl+u, I get underline

But when I hit ctrl+i, I get an upwards pointing arrow. It's supposed to give me italics, not an arrow! Wtf?

How do I fix that? Every other computer I use, ctrl+i give me italics.

Place the text you want to be in italics between two underbars (_). They should show the italics

Hmm. Ctrl-i works OK for me. Could be you're working in an unusual font and it's inserting a symbol.

Or just try the old standby ... reboot!

Italics should work with any font. I've rebooted many times.

Anyone else have any ideas?

That is weird. What version of word are you running? Your best bet may to just remove and reinstall word.

I'll take m swords for a 100

Well, I don't know, it should work...hmmm
Have you checked AutoCorrect under the Tools Menu? Or the auto text? Something has to be set up incorrectly (thank you, I am Mr. Obvious)...
Hmm, what font are you using (but that shouldn't matter unless you're using symbols and even that shouldn't work)?
You could try the customize and options keys under tools, but I really don't know.
Good luck

Someone probably has a macro or something else of the sort set up so ctrl+i creates the arrow. Kinda like using character maps, type in Alt+0234 and get ę. Try opening up the character map find the symbol that you see printing and select it. See what the keyboard shortcut for it is. I bet it's ctrl+i. Just delete that and you should be back to normal assuming the italics will take back control once the other is gone.
On top of that, most of those people couldn't wipe their butt without directions, and they'd still probably get half way through when they realized they'd used the directions to do it.

Can't you just do this ??

Or highlight it and hit the I button?

Or am I not understanding the issue here?
Those that are the most sucessful are also the biggest failures. The difference between them and the rest of the failures is they keep getting up over and over again, until they finally succeed.

RD, and [i] don't work in MS Word.

I could just highlight it, go up to the top and hit the I, but that slows me down. I like to just type type type ctrl+i type type ctrl+i type type. It's much faster that way.

Auto Correct didn't change anything, but that was a good suggestion.

In Character Map, there is no upwards arrow character. Is there another place to check for macros?

The upwards arrow character appears for ctrl+i no matter what font I use.

Your computer is obviously possessed by the devil. There's nothing else for it but an exorcism.

Good luck with that!
