    Gangs of New York

    Hi everybody

I read an interview about this movie and there was an expert on history that helped the actors with the fighting choreography. It seems that the gangs fought with different styles and the gang that Leo is with used a grappling type of fighting, breaking arms etc.

Also mentioned was that many of the characters were real, like Daniels.

Anyone got more info on this subject? Haven't seen the movie myself yet.

    /Cheers

Dont know about the fighting styles but I am sure they had some pros assist in choreography. DDL's character was based on a real man, Bill the Butcher, but he [Bill] was killed in a bar room brawl as opposed to some massive street battle. They simply took his character a little further for the sake of good storytelling. Alot of the others characters were real as well... Tweed, etc (<----saw the documentary on History Channel)

That movie was awesome! That fish-hook move they do is the most brutal thing I've ever seen. Thank god you dont see a lot of that in the streets these days. - -- People gettin their mouths ripped open... ewwww. It takes a real sick man to do that to someone. Hey- maybe this movie will give the street-move a come back. Better watch the newspaper and see if anyone gets fish-hooked.

I think I actually have some respect for Leo now. He's finally gotten out of that sissyboy image.

Lol yes! Fish Hook is nasty. My sifu's teacher was accosted by some guys in Hong Kong when he first came down from Northern China. Apparently he fishhooked someone by hooking the mouth, grabbing onto his ear and then squeezing. I guess whichever gives first... goes.

    Saw it this weekend...

Was impress by many of the performances... Leo's & even What'shername's...

Of course Daniel Day Lewis rocked the big screen again!!!
