what I don't get, especially when it comes to these longfist styles, is why do you have to dance around waving your arms? I am not poking fun, just asking.

why do you have to dance around waving your arms?
They'll call it another application of the form but its really just artistic "flair"

Contemporary Wushu drew heavily on Longfist.

Longfist made me incredibly flexable and light on my feet

    arm waving?

The tai chi chicks dig it, ok?

All factors of telegraphing/blocking aside, you must admit that a full arm-swing punch hurts alot. Its the classic hick/cleetus punch like in the Dukes of Hazard!! Some people say that Long Fist is the way it is due to the fact its soo cold people wear long coats anc cannot use intricate hand movements to fight.

I am not so sure about that video..I think the guy in the silk outfit has some talent most likely, but I dont really feel that video is showcasing realistic fighting apps for that, except maybe the shoulder/elbow blow towards the end...Hmm..then again..its always hard to judge anything from a video..and I have not crossed hands with either of them.

a full armswing punch done by someone with

proper body mechanics and conditioned arms can be devastating if it lands on you.
That said, I tend to agree that longfist's big key technique was just the western front jab.

carly stop feeding ST00. He eats plenty as it is.

red5, the bits in between the apps was hokey as hell.
the apps were good examples of the style, imo.

but, ST00, your usual complaints are definitely represented
    here, sadly enough.

just looking at the first app.

the attack wasn't realistic. just one weak back fist.

the attackers left hand could sure be doing something offensive

I don't believe that the pull down on the attackers right hand
which, with enough power, could root the attacker and disrupt
an attack from that free swinging left arm, WAS strong enough
    to do so.

He sort of follows up to the direction of the left hand but his right
hand is out of position to intercept an attack from that hand

and I think that the sifu is pretty well respected among his peers

I think at one time these concepts may have worked in combat... years of NOT KILLING PEOPLE have watered down the CMA. I do still use a few long fist moves every-so-often but then again I use them as bait for when they counter... it leads them into more trouble. I always get my fase bashed in when I try to fight with it classically. Hmmm... I dont think the true way long fist should be used has been properly exhibited. There must be something to it as its been around for soo long. Too bad no one has thought to maintain its martial usage to a degree that is effective in modern times.

well this type of mei wah isn't straight long fist

it's a softer "internal" style of mai wah.

thats what I am talking about, while he is walking around disconnected from his opponent, why is he waving his arms sort of up and down like he is trying to hypnotize the guy or something.
