hey everyone....

i have read before that Shaolin had it's own system of throws, derived from shuai jiao.
i know there are some fellow shuai jiao fighters on this board and was wondering if any of them know which throws were included in this system, which i believe was called jiao-ti.
can anyone share some info??

Hi-
Shaolin codified and systematized a very large number of seperate martial arts and styles ranging from close fighting to longarm, to wrestling, to grappling to weapons to...well you name it and the shaolin order worked it to a zenith.

These systematized arts where disseminated from the temple outwards and over a thousand plus years became many other martial arts that in turn became true unto themselves as complete systems as they went through further development.

Many martial styles owe their origins to the Shaolin.
Of course, the Chinese had martial arts even before the existance of the temple and long before martial practice was a mainstay at Henan.

But having said that, it was the Shaolin who catalogged everything diligently and kept those martial arts alive and well for a very long period of time extending up to today in the here and now.

So, yes, they had wrestling, they didn't "invent" wrestling but they certainly modified it, added to it and gave it that distinct flavour of Shaolin Martial Arts.

Chiao-ti is not Shoalin derived. It was an early form of Shuai-chiao that evolved from an ancient Chinese gladiatorial contest called Gotti. The participants wore horned helmets and tried to gauge eachother, sometimes unto death.
Shaolin styles all have some elements of Shuai-chiao incorporated into the forms and sets.
There is, however, a Shoalin ground fighting system called Gouchuan (dog fist) or Fukien Ground boxing, that evolved in the Fukian Provence. It is a very athletic style that concentrates on striking and Chin Na techniques from the ground. I have trained this on a very limited basis. Very tough.
Contemporary Wushu has a set called Ditang Chuan which evloved from Gouchuan. This has devolved into a dificult tumbling routine that has lost much of its martial application.
Still, the argument could be made that many kung fu/wushu forms are more for attribute development then actual fighting.

thanks for clearing up what chiao-ti was. i knew there was an art based on trying to gore each other with the helmets, but wasn't sure about the name.
does anyone know what the name of the Shaolin throwing system was and what throws it used?
i have been taught throwing applications from my forms and they are mostly sweeps/trips and single-double leg/embracing type take downs.

Shuaijiao can be applied to any martial system. The throwing aspect just happens to be a specialty with those who are proficient!

Oriental Wrestling Entertainment has trained Shaolin monks to perform in the ring. Not everyone is convinced with the East-meets-West experiment.

With now 11 teams out of the 16 and a few singles competitors announced, the OWE UK’s Tag Tournament has never been looking more good. Among the OWE China stars that are set to make their European and UK debut in the tournament, Zhao Yilong, aka Shaolin Monk, is joining the International Superstars, through Dream Girl Ellie, Blanco Loco, Joey Ozbourne and Zach Cooper, Achilles Ben, The Flying Prince Gao Jingjia and Ayesha Raymond in the list of the singles competitors that could compete in one of 3 singles divisions, Openweight, Women’s and UK Title.

At only 18, Zhao Yilong, member of Team W, to quote OWE China, “is the name of the globally known Shaolin Monk. He represents the unique Shaolin Kungfu element of OWE. The young man has a childish mind and heavy wisdom. Zhao Yilong often attends the activities of the Shaolin Temple together with the elders of Shaolin. He and the founder of OWE, Dragon Fu, have also starred in “Seven Little Arhats” movie. When Zhao Yilong came to OWE to study wrestling, he also strived for excellence like martial arts. The integration of Shaolin martial arts into wrestling is a subject he has been studying and has produced some of the most amazing routines ever to be seen on the planet.

“Zhao Yilong’s wrestling videos have a high click-through rate globally. The unique character image and the wrestling style with Shaolin martial arts have quickly become the new favourite of the international wrestling world. THREE-WAY ACTION CLOSES OUT OWE UK DAY 3 MATCH ANNOUNCEMENTS

OWE UK have revealed the final match for Day 3 of their UK tour and it is none other than a Triple Threat match between The Shaolin Monk, Scotty Davis and Marko Stunt. This means we now know all the matches that will take place on September 20th in Liverpool.



At only 18, Zhao Yilong, member of Team W, to quote OWE China, “is the name of the globally known Shaolin Monk. He represents the unique Shaolin Kungfu element of OWE. The young man has a childish mind and heavy wisdom. Zhao Yilong often attends the activities of the Shaolin Temple together with the elders of Shaolin. The Supreme Suplex Machine Scotty Davis has a background in Freestyle Wrestling, having started at age 6, being a 7x Irish Champion, a 3x British Champion and has won various lower-level championships. In 2017, at Road To Scrappermania 3, Davis debuted for OTT against fellow debutant Conor Andrews. Outside of Ireland, Davis has started to make a mark in the UK on TNT IGNition, Pro Wrestling Clash, Fight Club: PRO, Frontline and Wrestle Gate. According to sources, “If we could give points on potential Scotty would be a definite ten. He’s simply one of the most exciting young wrestlers in the world right now, and he’s being handled to perfection by OTT. Scotty is incredibly versatile and already appears able to match up with pretty much anyone and put on a real show. He’s athletic but technical, he’s charismatic, yet works his arse off in the ring. Scotty might just be the next big thing.”



Marko Stunt made his debut in wrestling in 2015. He has worked mostly for indie wrestling promotions until he got noticed at GCW Joey Janela’s Lost In New York. Two weeks later, he was in All In “Zero Hour” pre-show, working the 15-Man “Over Budget Battle Royal”. Since then, he has worked for Joey Ryan’s BAR Wrestling, GCW and MLW. During WrestleMania week, he appeared at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 3, taking part in a gigantic Battle Royale. Also, here’s to hoping he comes out to We Belong by Pat Benatar.
