I'm not chief(obviously, lol) but the Chang Quan forms shown(1&2) are modern wushu beginer level forms. Hey Chief, where'd ya learn your wushu from?Hi chief108
If you don't mind me asking but who taught you
the "Chan Chuan" forms on your site.
I am cuorious about the mix of Nan Chuan,
Tai Chi Chuan and Chan Chuan as well.
Well, they are used by both "traditional" and modern chang chuan people. I use the quotes for traditional because some would not consider chang chuan traditional as it came about in the 20s..... but whatever.

They're good forms(I've practiced them alot!), but I'm fairly certain they were created in the 50's or so specifically as part of the standardized longfist system. Not trying to imply anything about anyone
So the difference between the two IS?? Is it true that Longfist resembles a lot like Tai Chi's forms, except not internally done?

well...
no hints on where we got our training.
some of those will be rather p!ssed when they know what we are doing on our website...
we also have Praying Mantis forms, Bagua etc. etc...
all material on our site is beginner stuf, the more advanced routines will come in time.
ya gotta start with them basics....
and yes, actually there is a resemblense beween long fist and taijiquan.
not very strange if you think about the history of TJQ, is it?

Well can anyone tell me ANYTHING about the two arts (from your experiences I mean), especially Long Fist? Thanks.
Milia Macerusk
uh Anything at all, what makes them effective, isnt longfist a form of modernized demonstrative wushu? what makes them different etc, combat strategies. you know the basic stuff u wanted to learn before knowing anything about the two. thanks.
Milia Macerusk
ok...
>>what makes them effective
>>isnt longfist a form of modernized demonstrative wushu?
most can be found in this article:

another good read on traditional wushu forms and how they work:

I personally like Lohan, since is very basic and incredibly effective for self defense. I like the continious attacks, it's like a train that runs over you and drags you along for a couple of miles. The break-free techniques are quite powerful as well..... My instructor broke my thumb at a demonstration once with 'em
I personally like Long Fist, since it goes to extremes. Fast in, fast out. The streched out punches give you so mauch reach, and the flow of the routines will teach you how to get back in your center after each attack. It's like a wave of attack and retrive.
Then put some Eagle Claw and Yang style Taijiquan in it and there are my roots...

Brad your are right, these two forms as shown in the site were created in the 50's and are modern. They were both published in book form as early as the sixties along with a more advanced form.
Form #2 on the site is based on a very old traditional Hong Chang Quan form. The original is more complex than the modern version shown.
