Off Topic, but you might find it interesting...
In the olden days, you would demean someone by slapping them with the "dirty hand". Turning the other cheek, you force the aggressor to either withdraw, or elevate your status with a "more respectful" slap.
This is a form of "indomitable spirit" practice. The popular interpretation of the phrase is _backwards_.
