    Check the southern board....

An individual-separate system based on the N. Shaolin Dragon no longer exists.

Somebody raise he11 if I'm wrong. Please.

Dim memories of a Southern Dragon style

I read an editor's response to a letter from an Australian Martial Artist to
Inside Kung Fu inquiring about Dragon Style. IKF described the art they knew about as a Southern Chinese System. If I remember right, it was described as similar to Bak Mei but with more open-hand strikes.

Also, ESPY video produced a tape on Dragon style where they described it as a close range system. Assumptions can be dangerous, but I took that to mean it was characteristic of Southern systems. The instructor's name escapes me though.

There is a southern style called Lung Ying Paai, meaning dragon form school, which is called Dragon Style. This system was constructed in the 19th century and is popular in Guangdong province. It is similar to baak mei paai (white eyebrow).
As for the dragon aspect of the famous, but probably legendary ng ying kyun (five animal fist), some say that Choy Gar inherited these techniques (as Hung Gar built on tiger), but next to no one if any practices Choy Gar today.
As far as I know there is no northern dragon style.

i studied dragon style when i was younger it called lung ying in chinese the system which has 6 core form and one weapon(staff) all has to do with your grip and hit resistance and old saying geos that: : the dragon must ride the wind: which means the fighter must never attack first instead let you enemy attack first then you can destroy him very good style alot of china and it has three different kinds of staff thats 8 feet long the first is made of wood the secong stone the last metal it's a hard system but ounce mastered your fighting will be great it's sometime combined with bak mei cause they use the same theories.

the dragon form in xing yi quan (if it is the he bei style that i'm presuming it is) is very short. it consists of only two movements, to the best of my knowledge. the shan xi style may have more, but will still not be more than a short form.

the dragon style posted about is from southern china, and uses odd coiling movements and hand positions. legend has it that it was created by the famous shao lin monk ng mui.

there is also a dragon form in the ha say fu hung gar that sifu kwong wing lam sells tapes for. ha say fu is most likely very old southern shao lin, as they carry the characteristics of it, and have no real connection to the regular hung gar. the forms in it are more advanced, and really bring out the spirits of the animals. the combat applications also show an incredible amount of knowledge and experience. tapes can be gotten from www.wle.com and i'm sure the people on the discussion board will be helpful if you need guidance.
