Yachi Kuen?

I have trained in an eclectic American Kung Fu system that has a nasty habit of combining Japanese and Chinese terms in their naming. Our style's creator studied Shaolin Kung fu under Ark Wong in the L. A. Chinatown in the late 50's and early 60's. The term "Yachi" or Yatchi" is used for the name of a training set called the Yachi Kuen. "Kuen" I know means "fist" and I have been informed that Yachi means "eight", however it is similar to what I think is a Japanese word, "hatchi" which I beleive means "eight". This style uses the Japanese numbering system to list their form numbers, but Chinese for the actual name of the forms. So you can see my dilemma. Any secondary sources to verify or refute the meaning of the term would be greatly appreciated.

Never heard of it, but "hachi" sure means eight in Japanese...

Yes, the Hachi could be the number eight.

It may have been the influence of Kajukenbo on the teacher if I read your earlier posts correctly about the instructor.
