    Shuai-Chiao on ABC news

Just to share - I don't know if any of you saw the ABC news special they did on China a few months back, but part of the special featured the "remains" if you will of the Shaolin temple. Americans, and other foreigners can train in kung fu for a few weeks or months at a time.

One of the monks was tossing a brother my size (6'2" 215) around like a rag doll, using Shuai-Chiao. I had no idea what it was, but I always knew kung fu had some grappling techniques.

So, where's that Ralek **** to dispute/badmouth kung fu when you need him?

sorry... to ralek, it's not grappling unless 2 sweaty, 'roided out guys are rolling around on the floor, wearing spandex.

    - I bet a funny thing about driving a car off a cliff is, while you're in midair, you still hit those brakes! Hey, better try the emergency brake!

Here's some nice photos of action from a shuai chiao tournament in Taiwan this May. Looks like grappling to me!

shoiu show is the just judo throws. It's the exact same throws in judo.

But it is not as complete as judo as it has no groundfighting. Shoi show sucks. it's judo throws minus the ground grappling.

    But judo sucks too.

Nothing sucks as much as your trolling, ignorance, and pathetic spelling and grammar.

Shuai Chiao does have groundfighting, but the preference is not to lay down on the guy while doing it. Instead, we prefer to break the thrown guys limbs while standing or with the throw itself. Shuai Chiao also has strikes - look at the site a little more and check out the "Rolling Waves" elbow to the throat strike. Illegal in your beloved nhb, but so what? Shuai Chiao is a fighting art, not a sport, although there is a sport aspect to it as shown in the tourney photos.

Here's a thought - why not challenge David Chang or David Lin? They're at least as far away as every other fighter you challenge, and I'm certain equally willing to give you the fractured limbs and severe concussions you so richly deserve.

Yeah, yeah, I know...don't feed the trolls. Consider this a long winded 'ttt' if it bothers you.

shuai chiao is nothing like judo! judo means the gentle way, what about shuai chaio do you find gentle? get your facts straight before you make an ignorant comment about something you have absolutly no knowledge about!

I hate to defend Ralek, but with my (rather limited) experience in shuai chiao and judo, a lot of the throws are pretty similar.

Although to agree with you EarthDragon, shuia chiao doesn't involve any kind of cooperation or gentleness.

Simply more proof (as if it were needed) of Ralek's utter ignorance.

dont worry you dont have to defend ralek. As with throwing, there also is only so many ways to skin a cat. What I mean is that in any kind of throwing style there are only so many ways that the human body can be thrown, so yes many stlyes have very similar throws just as many styles of fighting have punches and kicks, but just becuse we kick in CMA could you possible say that is the exact same kicks as muai tai or tae kwon do? this is what ralek has implied.

    att: Ralek

Dr. Daniel Weng, a shuai-chiao teacher, is contracted to form a combat curriculum for the Police Military College in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I'm not here to argue which style is better, but clearly this would suggest that Chinese Wrestling has combat value in the Brazilian authority's eyes. I am sure they have seen BJJ, Luta Livre, Chute Boxing, etc. and they still see things this way. People exposed to both arts (BJJ and SC) see the value in SC, but you (who have never seen SC) are basing your opinion solely on the premise that because it is Chinese martial art, it must be no good. SC is a huge element of San Shou and you know that san shou is effective.

    Reconsider

    I don't get mad.

    interesting news, stranger...

hmm, if shuai chiao is just judo w/o the groundwork, then bjj is just judo w/o the throws... Hey, Judo is superior! :D Now if you combine shuai chiao w/ bjj, well, in theory anyway...

There is stand up in BJJ. BJJ does double leg takedowns, single leg takedowns, clinching, and throws.

I was taken down with a double leg. It was right out of wrestling.

Chui shou is just JUDO with absolutley no groundwork dispite what some might tell you.

There is stand up in BJJ, then he proceeds to mention two takedowns - which by the very definition goes DOWN.

Oy vay, why do I bother...
