That is a misunderstanding. U can't "become one with the universe", as you already are in the universe, never seperated from it.(Bare in mind that Buddist beleives you can become one with the universe, to be something higher state than human.)
And there is no "Higher state than human", as there is no distinction between humans and things (so they say). Enlightenment is merely realising that u had something that you had never lost, or was seperated from.

But if I suddenly realized this, why would I follow a certain way of living? Why follow our human ethics? If I think humans as nothing else than a more complex flower, why should I worry about the man-made laws that does not have influence on the universe...?
