The 35th Annual Zhang San Feng Festival!

I just got this press release from Jim Donnelly. I'm scheduled to go this year, so I hope to see some of you East Coast people out there again.

I'll merge this thread with the ongoing Zhang San Feng Festival thread after it's over.

"Come find what you've been looking for ...
... where the martial and healing arts, meet spirituality, fun and friendship!"

    Dear Friend,

Just wanted to let you know the faculty listing and full workshop guide is now available (see workshop guide below).

We are also very excited to announce the addltion of Master George Dillman to this years teaching faculty as a first time presenter. For those of you who are not familiar, Master Dillman is a martial arts legend, a man who is considered a pioneer in the world of Chinese pressure point (dim mak) training.

With schools all over the world (including in China), books and over 50 DVDs in the art of pressure point combat, Master Dillman is considered by many to be the last word in this most secretive aspect of all martial arts, including the internal arts.

Though his workshops are open to all levels, he will be teaching nothing but advanced material all weekend (see the workshop guide for details). This is your rare opportunity to train with a martial arts legend, together with the rest of our group of the most amazing teachers to be brought together anywhere in one place, for a historically low price! Looking forward to seeing you at the 35th annual Zhang San Feng Festival!

    - Jim Donnelly (Director, A.S.I.A.)

    Festival cancelled

I just received this press release from Jim Donnelly

    Dear Friends,

It is with profound regret that we must inform you that we have made the decision to cancel this year's Zhang San Feng Festival due to low attendance numbers. We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation causes.

The taiji quinna workshop with Grandmaster Gary Torres, and the Dachengquan intensive with Grandmaster Wang Rengang, will continue. Both workshops will take place at the Asian Institute of Healing Arts in Mt. Pocono, PA. The Dachenquan workshop will be taking place during the Festival weekend (Fri - Sun, May 20 - 22, 2011). The Taiji Qinna intensive will take place the weekend of June 25 - 26, 2011. See below for details.

Those who have already registered for the Festival, have the option of receiving a refund, or applying their payment to either workshop. We also encourage those who were planning to register for the Festval, to consider registering for one or both of these two workshops instead.

As many of you know, dachenquan is a detailed training methodology which, many believe, embodies the essence of the "internal" in the internal arts. It's founder believed that he had rediscovered what many of the great masters of his time had lost - the way towards developing tremendous internal power. Grandmaster Wang will be teaching the entire methodology in a three day workshop, an unprecedented offering. You will not experience anything like it, and you will bring home with you a detailed methodology you can add to whatever system you pursue, including qigong, to practice through your entire lifetime.

Those of you who have studied with Dr. Torres before, know what a rare experience he offers. Taiji qinna is considered by all serious practitioners a critical part of tai chi applications training. With this workshop, you get the added bonus of Dr. Torres's insights through enhanced joint locking and pressure point techniques. Dr. Torres intends to, once again, demonstrate why we all consider him a walking encyclopedia of martial application and technique.

    it's because Dillman did a long-distance qi-blast knock-out on the Festival, right?

just a thought, maybe if they didn't have it out in the middle of nowhere, they might get more attendees...

Jim will love you for that, Dale

    Here's another press release.
    Mastering the Art of Dachenquan!

Grandmaster Wang, Rengang brings you an amazing experience .....

...... as he teaches you the key to mastering internal power!!

    Dear Friend,

Just a last minute reminder regarding the upcoming event scheduled in place of the annual Zhang San Feng Festival this year. The workshop with Grandmaster Wang, Rengang is happening at the end of this week and we are psyched! The group of people we have scheduled so far, are coming from as far away as Bolivia (don't ask me how they heard about it.

This is going to be an incredible experience where attendees will spend three days learning the entire Dachenquan system, a system that teachers can teach to their students, and anyone can add to their practice.

Dachenquan (also known as yiquan) is one of the most advanced methodologies designed to teach the practitioner how to generate tremendous amounts of internal power. This power can be applied to any system of martial arts, though especially to the arts of tai chi, bagua and/or xingyi. It can also be applied to any form of qigong, and be used just as easily for healing applications, as it can for combat applications. This workshop will include techniques on how to bridge your standing training to either combat or healing applications.

Most of the time, this system is taught over the course of months or years, never in a three day intensive. This is the first (and possibly only) time Grandmaster Wang will teach the system in this manner. In-between training sessions, everyone will have the opportunity to chat with the Grandmaster and ask questions. The whole group will also be going out and eating together. This is going to be one of those unique, intimate experiences that rarely comes along and is never forgotten. I certainly hope you'll consider joining us.

    Sincerely yours,
    - Jim Donnelly (Director, A.S.I.A.)

I spoke to Jim on the phone last week. His main reason for cancelling was that he could not meet the number of reservations required by the hotel. Numbers are down all around for events this year. Most people are blaming the price of gas....

The simple fact is, there just is no belief in Chinese martial arts any more, except amongst a few die hards.

There's only so far people were ever going to believe hocus pocus fake demos and a ratio of ten million theory videos to three of people actually using kung fu in something like sparring that looks like kung fu.

All the fakes, the frauds, the jokers who pretended to be kung fu experts all these years, sucking money out of other people, inflating your egos and calling yourselves sifus and masters, pretending to be guardians of kung fu - all the time you were killing it off. Now it's a laughing stock, and no one even wants to go to a Chinese martial arts festival.

Give it another ten years, with any luck, the entire Western Chinese martial arts scene will have ended. Then maybe we'll get some real experts coming over from China, and we won't have to cringe in embarrassment at videos of people breaking pieces of weetabix and calling it iron palm, or people who clearly have not the slightest clue about actual combat poncing about in front of others taalking about their internal energy skills and threatening to qi blast people who don't believe them.

Here's to a series of cancellations! May the sickness finally puke itself up and out, and finally rid us all of the cancer.
    It's not worth a penny!

    you know...

if the organizers of this festival offered it up as an actual festival without an absurd price, people wouldn't mind spending the money to drive to it... make it a donation only - potluck kinda deal, where everyone helps contribute to the effort... instead of a holding it at a resort, make it outside in a national forest or state park with camping... return to nature - be one with it... just saying... now more than ever, people need to reforge the true meaning of community where information is shared, not sold... it's truly sad how information has become a commodity - if you don't have enough money, you aren't good enough to learn. bullsh!t if you ask me... i recently donated all time, energy, and materials into building a flagstone patio for the local township park where people can come together and share, hang out, and exchange ideas with each other... LOL... i should be the organizer of something like this.
