QUINCY —
A funeral will be held Wednesday for Tang Kwok Wah, a kung fu grandmaster who lived in Quincy for many years.
Mr. Tang died Nov. 22 at Tufts Medical Center. He was 80.
At the age of 8, Mr. Tang began training in classical tradition of Shaolin kung fu. He was a disciple at Lam Jo's kung fu academy in Hong Kong.
Among his students were Winchell P.C. Woo, who operates the Chiu Mo Koon Martial Arts Academy in Boston, Yon Lee of the Shaolin Center in Quincy and the Harvard Tai Chi Tiger Crane Club and Sik Hum of Brookline Tai Chi.
Mr. Tang lived in Quincy from 1988 to 2001. He moved to Braintree with his wife, Tuyet Lan Lu, and daughter, Ellen Tang, but returned to Quincy in 2006.
The funeral will be held at the Wing Fook Funeral Home in Boston.
A Buddhist memorial prayer will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Shaolin (Cultural) Center on 60A Billings Road, Quincy.
